  Bhartrihari is one of the important poets of Sanskrit Literature. It is said that he belonged to the first century B.C and that he was the elder brother of King Vikramaditya, the great ruler of Ujjain. 
  Bhartr̥ihari was not only a great King. He was a great scholar, a great poet, a great Yogi, a versatile genius and above all a great Vedantin. He has written many works in Sanskrit. Three of them are popular poems consisting of one hundred verses each. They are-the Shringara Satakam, the Niti Satakam and the Vairagya Satakam. Satakam means a work consisting of 100 verses. 
  Vairagya Satakam is a philosophical work dealing with the subject of liberation. Vairagyam means detachment. So, this work deals with the subject of Vairagyam as a pre requisite for liberation. 
  This audio book gives a brief overview of this poem in English along with the recitation of all the 100 verses.

  Inner Revolution Poetry - From...

  The beauty of poetry is also practical. It is said in the Vedic scripture that to be a poet is one of the divine qualities possessed by devotees of the Lord. Like an ornament it enhances the character of a person, if he is using this poetry not for own sense gratification, but for glorification of the Supreme Person. That is the only work of a poet, namely to glorify the all-attractive person, literally Kṛṣṇa. 
  Words that do not glorify the All-attractive Person, Kṛṣṇa, are considered by saintly persons to be like places of pilgrimage for crows. Swan-like devotees who are actually residents of the kingdom of God do not derive any pleasure there. Thus, I follow in the footsteps of my spiritual teachers who were all expert poets and writers. 
  2016, as a believer and traveler I came to win back faith. Finding shelter with the wisdom texts of the Vedas, a doorway to self-realisation was opened. Self-realisation is nothing cheap, but the sole purpose of human existence. This human form of life is essentially meant for inquiring about the Absolute Truth. 
  When this mystical door opened, I had insight into spiritual truth, substantial, enlightened and blissful. In a state of meditation this spiritual drop touched my heart and I tried to get hold of it. Expressing my experiences in words of poetry helped to channel these spiritual visions and insights. 
  Once I sat on the Pacific Ocean and meditated. A vast consciousness surrounded me and I felt as if I was one with that vast consciousness. Later, I came back to an individual consciousness. I would read about this oneness experience, warned that this is māyā, illusion. In retrospect, this path of illusion (Mayavada) was enlightened by the spiritual master (Prabhupāda) who felt compassion with this delusioned seeker.

  One of America's most controversial generals, Douglas MacArthur's rise through the US Army's ranks was meteoric. However, he did not lead large formations of men in combat until he assumed command of forces in the Philippines in 1941. When war commenced with the bombing of Pearl Harbor, MacArthur's performance on the battlefield was a failure: he underestimated the Japanese, and his poorly trained forces were outmaneuvered and outfought by a much smaller invading force. 
   
   
   
  In his subsequent role as America's shogun in Tokyo, MacArthur was again surprised by an enemy he underestimated. The Korean War yielded his greatest victory, at Inchon, but also his greatest defeat, along the Yalu River. Unwilling to accept anything but complete victory, he openly defied President Truman: MacArthur fatally undermined chances for an early peace and attempted to widen a conflict which threatened to become a third world war. Raging against his subsequent firing, he only truly faded away after he was publicly criticized by a panoply of America's greatest WWII generals. 
   
   
   
  Today, MacArthur still polarizes. Many biographies agree he was a great and patriotic leader marred by a few failures. James Ellman argues the opposite: MacArthur was a lackluster battlefield commander who suffered stunning defeats while undermining the command structure of our military.
