Summary

From Out My Heart is a darkly sensuous novel about two women whose bodies become the threshold through which the living and the dead insist on speaking, from the award-winning author of Follow Me to Ground and Redder Days.
When Phyllipa, a scholar chasing the lingering pulse of Edgar Allan Poe, travels to a remote, river‑ruled community, she finds herself drawn into the orbit of Lana: a woman whose faith, exhaustion, and old wounds make her strangely open to visitation. Their encounters unfold in a landscape of heatstorms, thickets, and swollen riverlight, where possession is not a metaphor but a physical event: a tremor in the voice, a shift in the hips, a borrowed breath. As Phyllipa records Lana's transformations, she feels her own interior loosening – the boundaries between scholarship and desire, between inquiry and complicity, dissolving into the wet dark of the woods.
Rainsford crafts a gothic of flesh and inheritance, where motherhood, harm, and spectral longing press against the skin. A novel of haunting in its truest sense: the way another life can move through a woman's body, and the way a woman can become the echo chamber for what history refuses to release.
Available since: 10/08/2026.

There’s a million dollars in my bank account that isn’t mine.
I planned a vacation fling, but the guy in question has a twin brother no one told me about.
I kissed the twin by accident. Bam, cue fireworks and sparks. Now, if the universe could do me a solid and help me do kiss him on purpose, I could forget my money troubles.
    Maddock
Two years ago, I betrayed my brother in the worst possible way. I slept with his girlfriend. An accident on my behalf, but one that tore us apart. I’ll never hurt him like that again. I didn’t count on Rory Westacre slamming her way into my life and laying her lips on mine. I didn’t know I could fall for a lass with just one kiss.
I’ll deny those feelings until the end of time in order to make things right with Max. But when the money in her account threatens her life, nothing will stop me from getting back the woman who’s stolen my heart. Even if I can never have hers.

Thompson Hall, redolent of plum pudding and mince pie, green of holly, warmed by omnipotent Victorian fireplaces, awaits the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Brown from the south of France
But they may never make it to Thompson Hall. The story opens in Paris at Le Grand Hotel, where Mr. Brown is down with "a throat condition" - he is unable to travel to England. Only Mrs. Brown is quite determined they will go on.

So begins a Christmas tale complicated and simple, pathetic and farcical, embarrassing, - even risque, though of course it could be read aloud to an assembled Victorian family.
Anthony Trollope was an English novelist and civil servant of the Victorian era. Among his best-known works is a series of novels collectively known as the Chronicles of Barsetshire, which revolves around the imaginary county of Barsetshire.

Trees arched from a field of guinea-grass which resembled young wild corn. The day was still and dry. The men working were dressed in the consistent blue of United States regulars. They looked indifferent, almost stolid, despite the heat and the labour. There was little talking. From time to time a Government pack-train, led by a sleek-sided tender bell-mare, came from one way or the other way, and the men stood aside as the strong, hard, black-and-tan animals crowded eagerly after their curious little feminine leader...FROM THE BOOKS.
