Summary

"The History of France " in 6 volumes is a comprehensive account of French history from its earliest beginnings in Gaul to 1789 written by the French historian and statesman François Guizot. According to the author's opinion, there are, in the history of peoples, two sets of causes essentially different, and, at the same time, closely connected; the natural causes which are set over the general course of events, and the unrestricted causes which are incidental. The fated causes and the unrestricted causes, the defined laws of events and the spontaneous actions of man's free agency – herein is the whole of history. This carefully edited collection has been designed and formatted to the highest digital standards and adjusted for readability on all devices. Table of Contents: Gaul The Romans in Gaul Gaul Conquered by Julius Caesar Establishment of Christianity in Gaul The Germans in Gaul, the Franks and Clovis The Merovingians Charlemagne and His Wars The Crusades, Their Origin and Their Success… Volume 2: The Crusades, Their Decline and End The Kingship in France The Hundred Years' War, Philip VI and John II The Hundred Years' War, Charles V Volume 3: The Hundred Years' War, Charles VII and Joan of Arc (1422-1461) Louis XI (1461-1483) The Wars of Italy, Charles VIII (1483-1498) The Wars in Italy, Louis XII (1498-1515) Volume 4: Francis I and Charles V Francis I and the Reformation Henry II (1547-1559) Charles IX and the Religious Wars (1560-1574) Henry III and the Religious Wars (1574-1589)… Volume 5: Henry IV, Protestant King (1589-1593) Henry IV, Catholic King (1593-1610) Louis XIII, Richelieu, Catholics and Protestants Louis XIII, Cardinal Richelieu, and Foreign Affairs Louis XIV, His Wars and His Conquests 1661-1697 Volume 6: Louis XV, the Ministry of Cardinal Fleury, 1723-1748 Louis XV, the Seven Years' War Louis XVI, France Abroad – United States' War Louis XVI, France at Home – Ministry of M. This audiobook has been recorded using Text to speech (TTS).

There have been many attempts to encapsulate and explain the many mysteries that surround us; these include everything from the contents of the Vatican Secret Archives, the paranormal and Ufology and even subjects that seem to slip between the cracks of reality into the realm of high strangeness.

And now the United States government has finally admitted that many of the unexplained sightings of craft may very well be alien technology.

This book draws on all of these threads as it weaves its way thought the many twists, turns and possibilities that define the subjects discussed.

Just about all of the subjects examined are interlinked at one level or another. It is as if the ancient eastern concept of ‘oneness’ was recognised by our forefathers, long before the arcane physics of quantum mechanics demonstrated its reality. Perhaps this is a contributing factor to the belief that all points in space and time are interconnected. In fact it is thought that this peculiarity is how UFOs manage to traverse the incredible distances between the stars and perhaps even the galaxies.

Of course from our current level of knowledge, the ‘mechanics’ of such a technology can only be speculated upon. Or can it? We’re about to discover.

This book will discover and explain who these aliens are, how they come and why.

One overlooked figure in the Punic Wars is Hamilcar Barca, who is now best remembered for being Hannibal’s father. However, before Hannibal marched out of Spain, it was Hamilcar who had positioned forces there, and he was already a significant historical figure in his own right. Indeed, had it not been for his death, his legacy likely would have been more important than that of his illustrious son, who is now remembered as one of history’s greatest generals.
In the history of war, only a select few men always make the list of greatest generals. Napoleon. Caesar. Alexander. They are always joined by Hannibal, who has the distinction of being the only man who nearly brought Rome to its knees before its decline almost 700 years later. Rome never suffered a more horrifying defeat in its history than at Cannae, and indeed, Hannibal nearly rewrote the course of Western history during the Second Punic War. Even today there remains great debate on just how he accomplished his masterful invasion of Italy across the Alps. Since his army included war elephants, historians still argue over exactly where and how he crossed over 2,000 years after he managed that incredible feat.
Although the Romans gained the upper hand in the wake of the First Punic War, Hannibal brought the Romans to their knees for over a decade during the Second Punic War. While military historians are still amazed that he was able to maintain his army in Italy near Rome for nearly 15 years, scholars are still puzzled over some of his decisions, including why he never attempted to march on Rome in the first place. Hannibal will always be listed among history’s greatest generals, and his military campaign in Italy during the Second Punic War will always be studied, but part of the aura and mystique surrounding the Carthaginian legend is that there is still a lot of mystery.

Children represent the future of our societies, yet they remain among the most vulnerable and marginalized populations worldwide. The protection of children's rights has become one of the most critical global issues in the 21st century, demanding urgent attention and action. While significant progress has been made in raising awareness of children's rights, millions of children still suffer from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and deprivation. This complex and multifaceted issue requires an in-depth understanding of the challenges children face, as well as the actions needed to safeguard their well-being.

At the core of children's rights is the belief that every child, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or economic background, deserves to grow up in an environment where they can thrive. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, set the stage for international human rights legislation, but it was the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), adopted in 1989, that provided a comprehensive framework for child protection. This treaty, ratified by nearly every nation, outlines civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights for children, recognizing their right to life, education, protection from violence, and participation in the decisions that affect their lives.

However, despite these legal frameworks, violations of children's rights continue at an alarming rate. Poverty, armed conflict, lack of access to education, child labor, and human trafficking are among the many issues that continue to affect children around the world. These issues often intersect and exacerbate one another, creating a cycle of vulnerability that is difficult to break. It is essential that global efforts to protect children are strengthened, and that all sectors of society—from governments to NGOs to the private sector—work together to ensure the full realization of children's rights.

Son of Birmingham - A Memoir

Today's Birmingham—led by Mayor Randall Woodfin—is a phoenix rising from the ashes of systemic racism and white flight. This first Southern city to pluck the feathers off Jim Crow, where peaceful protesters endured attacks by police dogs, where high-pressure water hoses tore at the flesh of men and women marching for their rights, and where children locked arms and sang "We Shall Overcome," is a living, breathing redemption story.

In Son of Birmingham, Woodfin draws upon the street wisdom of his generation's Southern rap music; the power of family, friends, and faith; and his education at the historically Black Morehouse College to preach the progress every corner of our nation clamors for right now. He walks listeners through the streets of his Birmingham, bringing to light the daily joys and struggles of everyday people and revealing what spurred him to turn his education and Capitol Hill experience to the city of his youth.

A moving memoir of a young leader's perseverance in a city still battling racism and gun violence, which Woodfin experienced first-hand, Son of Birmingham is also a call-to-action across America—an appeal to Woodfin's unique brand of servant leadership and responsive government for equitable, inclusive, and prosperous cities where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
