When the world shrunk as countries around the world started communicating to each other and trading with each other, it became important to extend the policies and regulations of a country in order to accommodate the relations established with other countries. This is when international organizations began to see the light of the day. Countries required co-operation from each other in order to live together in the world and share the resources available.
United Nations System was not the first organization to see the need for co-operation among countries. It began as early as 1865 when the International Telecommunication Union was founded. The organization now exists as a part of the UN specialized agencies. Then in 1899 Hague became the site for the International Peace Conference which eventually led to the establishment of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in 1902. The objective of this organization was to settle crises peacefully and to avoid war.
The Second World War led to the subsequent formation of the United Nations. But even before it, existed the League of Nations which was founded during the First World War in 1919 under the Treaty of Versailles. Its objectives were very similar as that of the United Nations System today. The organization aimed at promoting international peace and encouraging co-operation among the participating countries. It failed in its endeavors when the Second World War began and hence stopped its activities.
The United Nations picked up from where its predecessors had left and aimed at preventing the events that had led to the Second World War. The attempts of the organization have been more successful than any of its forerunners and it has thus been able to become one of the most influential organizations in the world.

The Truce is a definitive history of a half-decade of upheaval in the Democratic Party in which a new generation aggressively pursued their progressive ideals while the powerful, centrist establishment adapted to remain in command. Journalists Hunter Walker and Luppe B. Luppen illuminate this story of backroom maneuvering and political strategy with new revelations about pivotal events and exclusive, on-the-record comments from activists, campaign operatives, and members of Congress.

The Truce explores the major fault lines that define Democratic politics today and asks big questions about the future of the party. Will economic or social justice hold primacy at the top of the Democratic agenda? Who will lead the major wings of the party after two defining figures, Biden and Sanders, exit the stage? The Truce surveys the major shifts underway, from the rise of the Squad and new Democratic leadership in the House to a complete overhaul of the primary process. By digging into the divide between left and center, Walker and Luppen expose the creeping generational and political tensions that Biden has—for the moment—kept at bay.

An engrossing work, and a surprising must-listen, The Truce grapples with the dangers that threaten American democracy and the complicated cast of characters who are trying to save it.

How a broken criminal justice system has fueled the crisis of American democracy, and how we can address both problems together.Criminal Justice in Divided America shows how police, courts, and prisons helped to break American democracy and how better approaches to public safety and criminal accountability can help to repair it. Engaging critically with concerns from both the left and the right, Sklansky lays out a clear and deeply researched agenda for reforming police departments, prosecutors' offices, criminal trials, and punishment. Sklansky seeks pragmatic solutions that take account of political realities: the lofty ideal of empowering "the people" or "the community" can mean little when members of the public or the community disagree. While efforts to "defund" the police have exacerbated political conflicts without addressing the underlying problem of how and when force should be used to protect public safety, reforms aimed at improving police accountability, restraining prosecutorial power, and expanding the role of juries can bring together warring parties who share a concern for justice.Ultimately, Sklansky argues, reform must be rooted in a strong commitment to pluralism―bridging political divides rather than worsening them, strengthening democracy, and securing the broad support that enables durable change.

Is this country finally leaving Trump behind? Critically acclaimed author, Brenda Peterson explores the End Times for Trump. She imagines a future beyond this divisive president—and a possible dialogue to restore our faith in ourselves and our shared country. Trump’s presidencies are a tribulation for many. Now, Trump faces his own tribulations. This unholy man launched a holy war, crashed the global economy, alienated allies, and finally his Religious Right faithful by posing as Christ. Drawing from her darkly comic memoir, I Want to Be Left Behind: Finding Rapture Here on Earth, nature writer and novelist, Peterson, tells inspiring stories of the spiritual side of politics. She asks for a deeper discussion of the “God on our side” warrior ethic. With tender humor, she engages with Rapture believers who eagerly anticipate Armageddon, and she holds out hope for healing from a chaotic and polarizing decade too long shadowed by Trump.

The U.S. is suffering from toxic polarization. It’s fueled by the abdication of the truth in favor of an alternative reality that now divides us along ideological lines. Race is one of our most polarizing issues, and along with it, critical race theory (CRT), which examines how systems and policies perpetuate racism. Critical race theory is a specialized intellectual field established in the 1980s by legal scholars that describes how discrimination and racism in the United States is not a coincidence, but rather an outcome that is the result of the biased and slanted policies and practices that have disadvantaged non-white people in the U.S. for more than three centuries.
Now, many conservative lawmakers are latching on to the concept of CRT as a way to stoke fear of inclusion and change, using CRT as a catch-all phrase for restricting how racism and history are taught in schools. Currently, at least 35 states have passed or considered legislation on race education.
The goal of this book is to create some clarity out of the chaos and panic surrounding CRT, and to provide intervention strategies, tactics, and approaches to address the critiques and assertions of CRT skeptics and the anti-CRT lobby. Gaslights and Dog Whistles - Upholding Critical Race Theory and the Real History of Racism in the U.S. illuminates the path we can take to engage our peers in constructive dialogue to both understand their point of view and open up a world of new possibilities for them to move from fear to partnership.
