Summary

What is Military Staff

A military staff or general staff is a group of officers, enlisted and civilian staff who serve the commander of a division or other large military unit in their command and control role through planning, analysis, and information gathering, as well as by relaying, coordinating, and supervising the execution of their plans and orders, especially in case of multiple simultaneous and rapidly changing complex operations. They are organised into functional groups such as administration, logistics, operations, intelligence, training, etc. They provide multi-directional flow of information between a commanding officer, subordinate military units and other stakeholders. A centralised general staff results in tighter top-down control but requires larger staff at headquarters (HQ) and reduces accuracy of orientation of field operations, whereas a decentralised general staff results in enhanced situational focus, personal initiative, speed of localised action, OODA loop, and improved accuracy of orientation.

Everywhere we look, companies and governments are spying on us—seeking information about us and everyone we know. Ad networks monitor our web—surfing to send us "more relevant" ads. Databases of human information are assembled for purposes of "training" artificial intelligence programs designed to predict everything from traffic patterns to the location of undocumented migrants. We're even tracking ourselves, using personal electronics like Apple watches, Fitbits, and other gadgets. As Mark Zuckerberg once put it, "the Age of Privacy is over." But Zuckerberg and others who say "privacy is dead" are wrong. In Why Privacy Matters, Neil Richards explains that privacy isn't dead, but rather up for grabs.

Richards shows how the fight for privacy is a fight for power that will determine what our future will look like, and whether it will remain fair and free. Privacy matters because good privacy rules can promote the essential human values of identity, power, freedom, and trust. If we want to preserve our commitments to these precious yet fragile values, we will need privacy rules. Richards explains why privacy remains so important and offers strategies that can help us protect it from the forces that are working to undermine it. Pithy and forceful, this is a must-listen for anyone interested in a topic that sits at the center of so many current problems.

Symptoms of PTSD include flashbacks, nightmares, intrusive thoughts, and hyperarousal. While there is no cure for PTSD, there are a number of treatments that can help reduce symptoms. One treatment option that has shown promise is meditation. A growing body of research suggests that meditation may help reduce symptoms of PTSD by teaching people how to better regulate their emotions and tolerate difficult thoughts and feelings.
The meditations in this audiobook provide meditation support that may be helpful for those struggling with PTSD. If you are struggling with PTSD, it is important to seek the guidance and treatment of a trained clinical professional, and this audiobook does not constitute medical advice in any way.

Some years ago, Oliver Darkshire stepped into the hushed interior of Henry Sotheran Ltd (est. 1761) to apply for a job. Allured by the smell of old books and the temptation of a management-approved afternoon nap, Darkshire was soon unteetering stacks of first editions and placating the store's resident ghost (the late Mr. Sotheran, hit by a tram).

A novice in this ancient, potentially haunted establishment, Darkshire describes Sotheran's brushes with history (Dickens, the Titanic), its joyous disorganization, and the unspoken rules of its gleefully old-fashioned staff, whose mere glance may cause the computer to burst into flames. As Darkshire gains confidence and experience, he shares trivia about ancient editions and explores the strange space that books occupy in our lives—where old books often have strong sentimental value, but rarely a commercial one.

By turns unhinged and earnest, Once Upon a Tome is the colorful story of life in one of the world's oldest bookshops and a love letter to the benign, unruly world of antiquarian bookselling, where to be uncommon or strange is the best possible compliment.

The Awakened Empath Bundle, 2 in 1 Bundle: Empath's Survival Guide and Empath AbilitiesPeople have common misconceptions about being empathetic and being an empath. To state the obvious, these are two different concepts. Being empathetic is when our hearts feel for another individual who is going through a period of crisis. Empathy gives us the power to think about, understand, and care about each other. Empath people, however, detect their energy, emotions, and physiological symptoms in them. They are usually more accurate in recognizing emotions just by looking through their body language. They are also more likely to acknowledge emotions prior to others and rate those emotions as being more intense. In this bundle, you will learn how to build and enhance your empathy. It will teach you sensible and time-tested tips you can use to rise above personal biases and become kinder, more forgiving, more accepting, and more loving toward other people. It will also be a guide for empaths. This 2 in 1 bundle includes the following audiobooks:1. Empath's Survival Guide: An Empath's Guide on How to Become Emotionally and Spiritually Healthy to Be the Best Version of Yourself2. "Very occasionally a tragedy turns into a triumph. This wonderful, searing book is such a moment. Rush to read it & be thankful." – Miriam Margolyes
Last night Ben phoned from Bermuda, collect as usual. I’d asked – though heaven knows why as we avoid soppy talk – if he still loved me.
He had said, ‘Course I do.’
He would be home for a visit once the race was over. He could not say exactly when but would keep in touch.
It is early June: the third day of June, to be precise, and a day I will never forget. Something feels wrong. Better get up.
Shirley’s sixth sense was all too real: tragedy had struck Ben’s ship, Marques.
The government announced that it was a ‘freak accident’.
But something did not add up.
On 2 June 1984 the British-registered tall ship Marques left Bermuda Harbour, cheered on by watching crowds. With other sailing vessels from across the world, the barque was heading for Halifax, Nova Scotia, having won the first leg of the internationally famous Tall Ships Race. As they sailed out to sea, there was not a cloud in the sky. But by midnight the weather had changed and the seas became violent.
Just 80 miles from Bermuda, things took a turn for the worse – the ship lurched and water poured in through the wide-open hatches. In 40 seconds the Marques had vanished. Of the 28 people on board, 19 were lost: crew and passengers, hailing from Britain, Canada, the US and the Caribbean. Among the missing was Shirley Cooklin’s 18-year-old son Ben.
Driven to seek answers, Shirley finds only dead ends and denials. She begins to wonder – what if this was not a freak accident caused by the wind? What if the tragedy was the result of a gross act of negligence? And why is the Thatcher government so interested in the incident?
This is the riveting true story of one mother’s lifelong search for justice.
In her memoir, Cooklin navigates the turbulent waters of maritime law and political history. Her quest for justice in the face of corruption and misconduct makes this autobiography a compelling addition to any non-fiction collection.

In April and May 1945 the city of Berlin was the site of the final destructive act of the Second World War in Europe. The German capital became a battleground. After three weeks of ruthless fighting against a desperate, sometimes suicidal, defense, the Red Army took the city and crushed the last remaining German armies in the East. This momentous battle and the elaborate preparations for it were recorded in graphic detail by photographers whose images have come down to us today. These images, which give us an unforgettable glimpse into the grim reality of mid-twentieth-century warfare, are the raw material of Nik Cornishs evocative book.Using a rich selection of rare photographs from the Russian archives as well as images from German sources, most of which have not been published before, he traces the course of the entire campaign. The battles fought in East Prussia, eastern Germany and Hungary in particular the assault on Budapest are covered. But the body of his book is devoted to the battle for Berlin itself—the monstrous onslaught launched by Zhukovs armies on the Seelow Heights, the bitter street fighting through the suburbs, then the ultimate confrontation, the merciless room-by-room struggle for the center of the city and the Reichstag.
