Summary

Who is Graeme Snooks

Graeme Donald Snooks is a systems theorist and stratologist who has developed a general dynamic theory to explain complex living systems. His resulting "dynamic-strategy theory" has been employed to analyse the fluctuating fortunes of life over the past 4,000 million years (myrs) and of human society over the past 2 myrs; to analyse contemporary economic problems ; to explore socio-political issues ; to analyse the emergence, operation, and malfunction of the mind; and to make scientific predictions about the future. New discoveries emerging from Snooks' publications include: existential schizophrenia, strategic frustration, strategic selection, the growth-inflation curve, the strategy function, the logological constant, the Snooks-Panov Vertical, technological paradigm shifts, the Solar Revolution, and, most importantly, the strategic logos. His body of work challenges the existing paradigms of orthodox (neo-classical) economics, climate-mitigation economics, Marxism, neo-Darwinism, evolutionary psychology, self-organisation theory, and all other supply-side systems.

Have you ever wondered why your brain self-sabotages? Or why your actions seem self-defeating or destructive? This book explores how our brains have evolved to favor survival over mental well-being—creating "controlled explosions"—and provides practical ways to understand, acknowledge, and diffuse them.

Controlled Explosions in Mental Health identifies everyday scenarios in which one may experience self-destructive behavior such as procrastination or self-criticism. Each chapter guides the listener through key examples of controlled explosions, identifying and exploring their possible functions. Listeners will learn how to identify when one or more of these "explosions" are operating in their lives, recognize the potential harm or difficulties this may cause, and learn practical ways to navigate and overcome. The friendly, accessible narrative, teamed with guided examples to aid self-practice, makes this book the ultimate companion for navigating your mental health.

This book supports the path to self-awareness, helping the listener take control of their own struggles with insight, care, and compassion. It's a must-have for any listener looking to better understand their mental health and wellbeing.

    ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK
In "Outliers: The Story of Success" by Malcolm Gladwell, the author explores the factors that contribute to the extraordinary success of individuals, moving beyond the typical explanations of talent and ambition. The book delves into various case studies, from geniuses and business tycoons to rock stars and athletes, to uncover the hidden advantages, cultural legacies, and opportunities that play a critical role in their achievements. Gladwell argues that success is not simply a result of individual effort and innate ability, but rather a product of a complex interplay of various factors such as family background, birth date, and cultural heritage. The narrative examines the "10,000-hour rule" which demonstrates the importance of practice and dedication to mastering skills, and the concept of "accumulative advantage" to understand how advantages can compound over time. In addition, the book investigates how cultural values, such as the work ethic of rice farming societies or the communication styles of different cultures, can significantly impact success in different fields. The author proposes that by looking beyond the individual, we can better understand the logic behind who succeeds and who does not.
