In 1692, a small Puritan community in Massachusetts became the stage for one of the darkest episodes in American history. The Salem Witch Trials, fueled by superstition, religious zeal, and the fear of the unknown, led to over 150 accusations, countless shattered lives, and the executions of innocent men and women. But beyond the gallows and confessions lies a deeper story, one of resistance, power, and the origins of collective fear in America.
In Shadows of Salem, readers are taken inside the trials to witness how hysteria spread, how law was bent to justify injustice, and how individuals, like Giles Corey, chose silence and suffering over submission. Drawing on historical records, legal precedents, and cultural analysis, this book uncovers how Salem’s legacy shaped America’s enduring relationship with fear, authority, and social control.
From the use of spectral evidence to the crushing weight of peine forte et dure, Shadows of Salem explores not just what happened in 1692, but why it continues to haunt the American imagination. It is a story of mass panic and manipulation, but also of defiance and resilience, an essential lens for understanding both the past and the patterns of fear that still echo in modern society.
Perfect for readers of history, law, and cultural studies, Shadows of Salem offers a compelling examination of how hysteria becomes power, and how silence can be the most powerful act of resistance.

Have you read books about narcissistic abuse recovery and toxic personalities? Although you feel more informed, you still find yourself going around in circles with them. Do you still have burning questions? Why are they like this? Do they continuously drain your energy with their atrocious behavior? Let's be honest. Regardless of what we do in life, narcissists will always be around. No one can completely exterminate their life of toxic personalities. They will still show up at work, unbreakable family ties, or a relationship you cannot escape. Wouldn't it be nice to deal with them completely unaffected?

Learn techniques, tools, and insight into your relationships that you won't find in any other book. There are reasons that narcissists love and lock onto empaths, givers, and lovers. As the counterpart, we have insecurities, matching traumas, imbalances, and inner wounds that must heal. Merely explaining the psychology around toxic and narcissistic personalities does not address our core issues, so we continue to repeat patterns with them. Only once we look at both sides of the relationship from a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual standpoint can we maintain relationships without becoming trapped by negative emotions. We are in charge of those emotions, yet we do not know how to identify, heal, or balance ourselves. That's the focus of this book.

The ambitious and fearless emperors that built the legendary Roman Empire from scratch, the broad-shouldered and bronzed gladiators with their iconic plume helmets and glinting swords, and elaborate parties attended by toga-wearing Romans fueled by alcohol, violence, orgies, and other godless acts all paint a picture of Roman life.
At the Circus Maximus, the guttural cheers of the spectators reverberated across the enormous open space, but their cries could hardly be heard over the rumble of the ground. On the ellipse-shaped track, 5 charioteers would skew their bodies and steer their magnificent vehicles around the curves. Gusts of sand and dirt flew up from the whizzing wheels and encircled the pounding hooves of the stunning stallions. Distracted personnel and guards dragging their feet were considered fair game. As one chariot careened to the side, preparing to collide with another chariot, a row of guards might have to try to duck out of the way in the nick of time. Some would be trampled by hooves. Chariot races were dangerous for participants too. A charioteer could become disoriented and fail to position himself as his horses moved instinctively, sending his body catapulting forward out of the chariot. Needless to say, chariot racing in Rome was a nail-biting spectacle.
When the Colosseum was built in the late 1st century A.D., the Romans, a people known for their architectural acumen, managed to amaze themselves. Martial believed the Colosseum was so grand a monument that it was even greater than the other Wonders of the Ancient World, which had been written about and visited endlessly by the Romans and Greeks in antiquity. The Colosseum was a spectacular achievement in architecture, something new and innovative, and therefore an amazing “Wonder” in its own way. The Colosseum is a large stadium even by today’s standards, and its great size conveys the power of the empire as it dominates the landscape and towers over nearby buildings.
