Pathology is the foundation of medical science, providing crucial insights into the mechanisms of disease, their effects on the body, and potential treatment strategies. It is a field that bridges basic science with clinical practice, helping medical professionals diagnose, prevent, and treat illnesses. Understanding pathology is essential for anyone studying medicine, biology, or healthcare, as it explains how normal biological processes are disrupted by disease.

At its core, pathology examines the structural and functional changes in cells, tissues, and organs due to disease. These changes can be caused by a wide range of factors, including genetic mutations, infections, environmental influences, and lifestyle choices. By studying these alterations, pathologists can determine the underlying cause of illness and help guide treatment decisions. From the cellular level to entire organ systems, pathology provides a comprehensive approach to understanding human health.

One of the key concepts in pathology is the body’s response to injury. Cells and tissues have remarkable mechanisms for adapting to stress, but when the damage exceeds their ability to repair, disease occurs. Cellular responses to injury can range from simple adaptations, such as an increase in cell size, to irreversible damage leading to cell death. The study of these responses is crucial in understanding conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and neurodegenerative disorders.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
Our teeth should last a lifetime. For many Americans this is not the case despite the world's best technology and treatment. Most dentists emphasize treatment over prevention. Daily oral hygiene is talked about but not taught to dental students or patients. Something is very wrong when regular patients with common gingivitis are referred to a periodontal specialist. It is time for dentists, patients and policy makers to be given an insider's look on the importance of oral hygiene habits and its effect on your dental and general health.
A folksy and engaging testimony to a great man and the dental profession to which he has devoted his life. Dr. Saroyan has weaved a story of his own experiences in dentistry with the basics of a dental education for the layperson emphasizing common sense prevention. As an advocate for optimum oral health, Dr. Saroyan looks at the controversies surrounding fluoridation and offers suggestions for a compromise. His insights into and opinions of dentistry and dental profession politics are deep and positions are always taken with the public’s health in mind. A great read for those who are in the profession and those who are interested in what goes on in their mouths.
This book is worthwhile reading for dental patients, aspiring dental students, and dental professionals. Doctor Saroyan is an exemplar of continued lifelong learning through serving the faculty of a dental school with his emphasis on prevention. Dr. Saroyan pulls no punches by revealing his frank and strong opinions in which dental public health can be improved by professional organized efforts.

    Hubble Space Telescope and James...

By the time the Hubble telescope reached orbit, it was already the world’s most famous telescope, but it was also the most scorned. The telescope cost nearly $2 billion more to complete than anticipated, and to make matters worse, the first images it sent back were skewed. However, within about a year of fixing it, the telescope captured images of a major event in the solar system. In July 1994, the telescope provided a firsthand observation of a comet, Shoemaker-Levy 9, breaking apart and slamming into Jupiter. The comet broke into about two dozen pieces, some of them more than a mile wide, and hit the giant planet with the force of millions of atomic bombs. In addition to capturing the streaking comet breaking up and colliding with Jupiter, the telescope captured images of the impact marks that were left on Jupiter’s surface, helping astronomers study Jupiter’s atmosphere and debris left by major impacts.
The increase in excitement was palpable. Scientists had viewed much of the universe through Hubble, almost as it was when it was formed, but they learned that none of these galaxies were the first ones formed. Then ultimately realized that “Hubble wasn’t the right instrument to detect those first galaxies.” “The farther we can see in space, the farther we can see in time…and that’s not a metaphor. That’s actually literally true,” explained scientist Amber Straughn. The Webb Space Telescope represents “looking in a part of space that we’ve never seen before.” The telescope will be able to detect the earliest galaxies because of its unparalleled sensitivity. Another factor is the kind of light it will collect, “light that our eyes aren’t designed to see.”
