ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK
Because of Winn-Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo, tells the story of Opal Buloni, a lonely ten-year-old girl who moves to Naomi, Florida, with her preacher father. Opal's life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters a boisterous stray dog in the produce aisle of the Winn-Dixie supermarket. She adopts the dog, naming him Winn-Dixie, and he quickly becomes her constant companion and a source of unconditional love.

Through Winn-Dixie's playful antics and ability to connect with people, Opal begins to make friends in her new town. She befriends Miss Franny Block, the eccentric librarian, Gloria Dump, a wise but reclusive woman, and Otis, the shy pet shop worker. As Opal gets to know these unique individuals, she discovers that each of them carries their own hidden sorrows and past regrets. The novel explores themes of loss, friendship, forgiveness, and the importance of community.
