Beschreibung

"The Black Corsair" is often considered the most perfect of all Salgari's novels, where the prose of the Italian writer achieves the fluidity and the most refined style of his entire output. And it is, above all, one of the quintessential adventure novels. In a perfect blend of fiction and history, Salgari transports us to the Caribbean, where the most famous Italian pirate, Emilio di Rocannera, Lord of Ventimiglia, better known as The Black Corsair, must carry out his revenge for the death of his brothers at the hands of Wan Guld, the Flemish governor of Maracaibo during the historic assault by L'Olonnais on the city of Maracaibo.

The novel, which skillfully mixes historical reality with fiction, is an exciting narrative through the Caribbean, containing all the main ingredients of a pirate adventure book: intrigue, action, and passion. This edition, adapted for a younger audience and beautifully illustrated, is ideal for introducing young readers to Salgari's adventures, or for adults who wish to revisit "The Black Corsair" in a quick and enjoyable manner.

The Missing Room by Lynn Venable - It was a dream house; yet the dream could have been a nightmare...
From the low cruising helicar, the cottage appeared charming. Lorinda gave a little exclamation of delight and exclaimed breathlessly, "Oh, that one, Dyke. Please, we must look at that one.”
The helicar was only about a hundred feet from the ground, and they could easily see the "For Sale” sign on the green lawn. Dyke guided the helicar down onto the landing strip beside the attached copterport. The cottage certainly had the most modern conveniences.
They stepped out, Dyke assisting Lorinda from the helicar with all the self-conscious solicitude of a brand new husband. They stood for a moment on the neat little postage stamp of a lawn, arm in arm.
The cottage was different from the others on the block, it was similar in its contemporary design, its just-for-two smallness, but still, it was different. It seemed to radiate charm out of all proportion to its physical aspects, as sometimes a relatively unattractive person will, for no reason you can put your finger on, be utterly irresistible.
"I wonder if it’s open?” asked Lorinda. "There’s one way to find out,” answered Dyke. After a token rap on the door, he twisted the knob. The door opened quietly inward.
    "Oh, Dyke, should we?’’

Who were the Puritans, and why are they important? What can we learn from them today? The Puritan movement began in England during the sixteenth century and continued all the way into the early eighteenth century. Although the Church of England was formed as a result of the Reformation, the Puritans believed it needed much more reform. Written for children and young people, this series will prove a suitable introduction to the Puritans for adults as well.

Transience by Arthur C. Clarke - Though The World May Die, Man Will Go On.
Sir Arthur C. Clarke was a British science fiction writer, futurist, and inventor, best known for his novel 2001: A Space Odyssey and his contributions to both science and science fiction. His work blended rigorous scientific accuracy with imaginative speculation, earning him a place among the greatest sci-fi authors of the 20th century.
Born on December 16, 1917, in Minehead, England, Clarke developed an early fascination with space and technology. After serving as a radar specialist in World War II, he studied mathematics and physics at King’s College London. His wartime work on radar helped shape his later ideas on satellite communication, leading to his 1945 proposal for geostationary satellites, a concept that later became reality.
Clarke’s writing career took off in the 1940s with stories published in Astounding Science Fiction. His breakthrough novel, Childhood’s End (1953), explored the transformative effects of alien contact on humanity. He became known for his grand visions of the future, blending scientific plausibility with deep philosophical themes.
Beyond fiction, Clarke was an advocate for space exploration and technological progress. His prediction of communication satellites earned him recognition from NASA and other scientific institutions.
Arthur C. Clarke passed away on March 19, 2008, in Sri Lanka, where he had lived for decades.
