Roman religion was deeply intertwined with the culture, politics, and daily life of its people. Unlike many other ancient religions, it was not based on a single sacred text or central doctrine but was instead a complex system of beliefs, rituals, and traditions that evolved over time. The foundations of Roman religion can be traced back to early influences, the societal role of religious practices, and the establishment of a structured priesthood.
The origins of Roman religion were shaped by various influences, including the Etruscans and Greeks. The Etruscans, who inhabited central Italy before the rise of Rome, contributed many religious customs, such as the practice of interpreting omens and the organization of priestly colleges. Greek influence introduced a pantheon of gods with human-like qualities, which Romans later adopted and adapted to fit their own cultural identity. This blending of traditions resulted in a unique religious system that emphasized duty, order, and reciprocity between humans and the divine.
Religion played a crucial role in Roman society, guiding both private and public life. Every household maintained a sacred space for worshiping domestic deities, such as the Lares and Penates, who were believed to protect the home and family. On a larger scale, the state religion was intertwined with governance, and public rituals were performed to secure divine favor for Rome’s prosperity. The performance of religious ceremonies was not merely a matter of personal faith but was considered essential for the stability of the state. Romans believed that their success as a civilization depended on maintaining good relations with the gods through proper observance of rituals and sacrifices.

Visual Friendlies, Tally Target: Surges continues the story of the role of forward air controllers (JTACs) and Close Air Support (CAS), picking up in 2006 and continuing through 2013. This volume covers the evolution of Joint Fires through the colloquial "second phase" of the War on Terror—the "surges" of Iraq in 2007 and Afghanistan in 2010–2011. Vol. II recounts the evolution of air power during the rising counterinsurgencies, as well as the psychology and mental makeup of these exclusive tribes. Notable accounts include the recovery mission of EXTORTION17, the first withdrawal from Iraq, previously unreported missions against insurgent strongholds, and instances where the situational awareness and decision-making of forward air controllers prevented civilian casualties and fratricide.

The story carries with it a continuation of the strategic lessons learned from America's longest war: where tactical successes and innovation failed to achieve a strategic outcome amidst ambiguous grand strategy, flawed policy and a failure to understand the new battlefields of the twenty-first century, as recounted by the men whose air power tribes went into the breach again and again. Volume II concludes as the "War on Terror" nominally ended in 2013, as the final phase of the post-9/11 wars transitioned to the "Train, Advise, and Assist" missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The world-renowned economist offers "dourly irreverent analyses of financial debacle from the tulip craze of the seventeenth century to the recent plague of junk bonds." —The Atlantic.

With incomparable wisdom, skill, and wit, world-renowned economist John Kenneth Galbraith traces the history of the major speculative episodes in our economy over the last three centuries. Exposing the ways in which normally sane people display reckless behavior in pursuit of profit, Galbraith asserts that our "notoriously short" financial memory is what creates the conditions for market collapse. By recognizing these signs and understanding what causes them we can guard against future recessions and have a better hold on our country's (and our own) financial destiny.

Ancient Greece, widely recognized as the birthplace of western civilization thrived from 800 BCE to 146 BCE. It is renowned for its contributions, to domains, including literature, philosophy, politics, arts and sciences. These contributions have had an impact on societies.
The civilization was characterized by a multitude of city states with Athens and Sparta being particularly notable. Athens, considered the cradle of democracy prioritized philosophy, education and cultural pursuits. It gave rise to thinkers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. In contrast Sparta embraced a society that emphasized training and excellence.
The Ancient Greeks practiced a religion with a connection to their daily lives. One of their religious and sporting events was the Olympic Games held every four years in honor of Zeus.
Greek literature holds status due to works like Homers poems The Iliad and The Odyssey. Playwrights such, as Sophocles, Euripides and Aristophanes created enduring tragedies and comedies that delved into the complexities of existence.
In the realm of science and mathematics the Greeks achieved significant breakthroughs.
Prominent individuals such, as Pythagoras, Euclid and Archimedes played roles in advancing the fields of geometry and calculus. Meanwhile philosophers, like Thales and Democritus laid the foundations for reasoning.
Turning to politics Ancient Greece primarily relied on city states, each governed by its system. Athens implemented a form of democracy where citizens actively participated in decision making processes while Sparta had an disciplined structure.
Ancient Greece's influence can still be seen in various aspects of modern society, including government, philosophy, language, art, and sports. Its legacy continues to resonate in the Western world, making it one of the most impactful civilizations in history.
