Xingu
Edith Wharton
Publisher: Bu Classics Books
Summary
In a hilarious skewering of intellectual pretension, a group of society ladies forms a lunch club to discuss deep cultural topics they barely understand. Their superficial posturing is disrupted by a visiting author and the mysterious topic of "Xingu," leading to a comedy of errors. The desire to appear learned clashes with the fear of being exposed, resulting in a witty unraveling of social masks. This satire is a delightful reminder that sometimes the emperor truly has no clothes.
