Summary

The celebrated author of The Age of Innocence offers a biting satire of Jazz Age society in this tale of indulgence, infidelity, and family dysfunction. Nona Manford is in love with the wrong man—or at least, she’s in love with a man whose wife won’t grant a divorce. When she isn’t preoccupied with her own romantic dilemma, Nona is busy trying to save the marriage of her stepbrother, Jim. But Jim’s wife, Lita, is desperate to escape her domestic role for a life of dancing, champagne, and glamour. And meanwhile, the family’s older generation isn’t faring much better. An instant bestseller when it was first published in 1927, Edith Wharton’s Twilight Sleep is both a scathing satire of Jazz Age frivolity and a psychologically probing portrait of a family coming apart at the seams.
Available since: 01/01/2023.
Print length: 380 pages.

Accidentally buying a Sicilian villa for just one euro is not the great Eat, Pray, Love game changer that Brian Chapman hopes it would be.

Instead, tumbledown buildings, a shortage of plumbers, and resentful locals make Brian’s drunken whim look like the biggest mistake of his chequered career so far.

Who could believe that an outbreak of swearing would lead not only to cultural reconciliation but to this very Australian fish out of water finding true love in Italy?

‘A raw and comedic romp into the heart of Italy. It’s Eat, Pray, Love, Swear – an unfiltered story of finding yourself for one euro.’ MICHELLE JOHNSTON

He was awarded a Pride of Australia medal in 2007 .
In between projects he is still living a mainly nomadic life across the North of Australia.

Knowing the Egyptian as I know him, I cannot but think that he is greatly misunderstood, even by those who are sincerely anxious to befriend him. His faults and his failings are to be found at large in almost any of the scores of books that have of late years been written about him and his country; but, though not a few have given him credit for some of his more salient good points, yet none that I have seen have shown any just appreciation of him as he really is. Calling in every one of her IOU’s—only to find some of her most reliable information sources drying up—Madison sets out to dig up what really happened to Creole. She never thought the truth would wrap its arms around her and make her wonder if she’s chasing a ghost . . . or taking a vacation from sanity.
