Sinopse

For over a century, Tarzan has captivated readers with his extraordinary adventures, bridging the divide between civilization and the untamed wilderness. The Tarzan Collection brings together seventeen of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ most thrilling novels, following the legendary Lord of the Apes from his origins in the African jungle to his daring quests across lost civilizations, mysterious lands, and distant worlds. A master of action, adventure, and storytelling, Burroughs created one of the most enduring and iconic heroes in literary history, a figure whose legend continues to inspire generations.     The saga begins with Tarzan of the Apes, where an orphaned child, raised by great apes, learns to survive in the jungle, only to discover his true heritage among men. His perilous journey continues in The Return of Tarzan and The Beasts of Tarzan, where betrayal, revenge, and the lure of the wild test his resolve. The Son of Tarzan expands the legend as his offspring is drawn into his father’s world, while Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar sends the hero back to a lost city brimming with danger and hidden treasure. Jungle Tales of Tarzan offers a glimpse into his formative years, revealing early encounters with friend and foe alike.     As the adventure intensifies, Tarzan finds himself in the midst of war, myth, and conquest. Tarzan the Untamed and Tarzan the Terrible pit him against invading armies and prehistoric horrors. In Tarzan and the Golden Lion, he forms an unbreakable bond with a mighty beast, while Tarzan and the Ant Men plunges him into a miniature world of warring civilizations. The intrigue deepens in Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle and Tarzan and the Lost Empire, where ancient kingdoms long hidden from history are brought to light. The adventure then takes a daring turn in Tarzan at the Earth’s Core, as he ventures into the subterranean world of Pellucidar.     In the later novels, Tarzan’s battles extend beyond the jungle into realms of espionage, lost cities, and high-stakes survival. Tarzan Triumphant and Tarzan the Invincible see him facing ruthless enemies and conspiracies that threaten both the jungle and the wider world. Tarzan and the City of Gold and Tarzan and the Lion Man bring him face to face with powerful rulers, dangerous alliances, and the fine line between civilization and savagery.     A definitive collection of heroic adventure, mystery, and survival, The Tarzan Collection showcases Edgar Rice Burroughs’ unparalleled ability to weave gripping tales of exploration and heroism. Whether battling predators, uncovering lost civilizations, or confronting the forces of man and nature, Tarzan remains one of literature’s greatest and most enduring heroes. Published by Classicus, this anthology is an essential volume for lovers of classic adventure fiction, taking readers on a breathtaking journey into a world where the wild still reigns, and a man raised by apes becomes a legend.

In the turbulent centuries of empire, the Caribbean was not merely a battlefield of nations, it was the beating heart of a global underground. Pirates of Empire reveals how smugglers, privateers, and rogue traders built an illicit economy that reshaped the Atlantic world, fueling fortunes, revolutions, and the birth of modern capitalism itself.
From Havana to Port Royal, from Bristol’s counting houses to the hidden coves of Hispaniola, Davis Truman uncovers the shadow networks that thrived beneath imperial rule. These were the real architects of the empire’s wealth, men and women who blurred the line between outlaw and entrepreneur, freedom and servitude, conquest and survival. Their ships carried more than plunder: they carried people, ideas, and commodities that transformed continents.
With gripping storytelling and cutting-edge scholarship, Pirates of Empire reframes piracy not as rebellion against empire, but as its indispensable partner. It exposes how colonial powers quietly relied on black markets to sustain their ambitions, and how these hidden economies gave rise to the modern Caribbean, multicultural, volatile, and endlessly creative.
Blending adventure and analysis, Pirates of Empire invites readers to sail into the murky waters where legality and legitimacy collided, and where the foundations of the modern world were forged in contraband and courage.

"The Star" is an 1897 apocalyptic short story by H. G. Wells.
Here is an impressive story based on the inter-action of planetary bodies and of the sun upon them. A great star is seen approaching the earth. At first it is only an object of interest to the general public, but there is an astronomer on the earth, who is watching each phase and making mathematical calculations, for he knows the intimate relation of gravitation between bodies and the effect on rotating bodies of the same force from an outside source. He fears all sorts of wreckage on our earth. He warns the people, but they, as usual, discount all he says and label him mad. But he was not mad. H. G. Wells, in his own way, gives us a picturesque description of the approach of the new body through long days and nights—he tells how the earth and natural phenomena of the earth will react. Though this star never touches our sphere, the devastation and destruction wrought by it are complete and horrible. The story is correct in its astronomical aspects.
