Summary

Information about the first heresy is secreted out of Jerusalem after its fall in AD 70. It reaches the last great pagan philosopher, Hypatia of Alexandria, and is smuggled out of Egypt by her slave-companion on the day of her murder. Centuries later, clues to the First Heresy are revealed in Ireland to a Norman youth and retired Templar Knight. Meanwhile, in Paris, a scholar of Persian descent, and connected to the Knights Templar, is drawn into the events that unfold. The First Heresy is so stunning that it could destroy the foundation of the Roman Church and the secular power-structures of Europe. It sets in motion a medieval hunt across France and Ireland as a small group, led by scholar, is closely pursued by the forces of the French King. They are confronted with the truth about the Christ and the nature of man, while the Order itself is attacked by the Iron King, convinced he is an agent of God. The First Heresy, the debut novel from financial commentator and TV presenter Eddie Hobbs, combines historical research with fiction and mysticism to create a unique, fast-paced thriller which will have you on the edge of your seat.

"The Man Who Would Be King" is a novella written by British author Rudyard Kipling. It was first published in 1888 as part of Kipling's collection "The Phantom 'Rickshaw and other Eerie Tales." The novella is known for its adventure, exploration, and themes related to imperialism and cultural clash.

The story follows the adventures of two British soldiers, Daniel Dravot and Peachey Carnehan, who have become disillusioned with their lives in the British Army stationed in India. They decide to leave the army and embark on a journey to the remote, fictional land of Kafiristan, located in the mountains of Afghanistan. In Kafiristan, they plan to establish themselves as god-like rulers and exploit the region's wealth and resources.

Their journey is fraught with challenges, but the two men manage to impress the local people with their superior knowledge and advanced weaponry. They are hailed as gods and establish themselves as rulers. However, as time passes, their ambition, arrogance, and desire for power lead to a series of events that result in a dramatic and tragic conclusion.

"The Man Who Would Be King" explores themes of colonialism, cultural clash, and the consequences of unchecked ambition. It is a cautionary tale that illustrates the dangers of imperialism and the hubris of those who believe they can manipulate foreign cultures for their own gain.

The novella has been adapted into various forms over the years, including a highly regarded 1975 film directed by John Huston, starring Sean Connery as Daniel Dravot and Michael Caine as Peachey Carnehan. The story's enduring appeal lies in its examination of the human desire for power and the consequences of attempting to subjugate foreign lands and cultures.

    Vampirism.
    An academy made for monsters.
A shifter I can't avoid because he fires up my bloodlust.
That's what my life has become.
I'm used to being the weird girl.
When I look at people, I see their auras instead of their faces.
But I never thought a vampire would rip out of me when a mysterious man told me these simple words: "Your blood is mine."
    The timing was too perfect.
Right after that, the headmaster of Nightshade Academy kidnapped me before I could hurt someone with my newly "awakened" vampire genes. Now she's making me attend her school until I've relearned how to be a civilized human being.
Well, I want out. I just graduated high school, and I'm not doing college. Besides, my mom is probably worried sick about me. Probably.
It gets worse when I meet Kian. He's a shifter and one of the most popular students at Nightshade Academy. He's the type of person I avoid, so I hate that I'm drawn to him. His smell is intoxicating. Being near him turns on my bloodlust, and that's when I realize how in trouble I really am.
If I can't control this bloodlust, I'm going to kill someone.

The pandemic had hit while he was under, devastating the lives of many in his beloved city and beyond. Now, as Jack tries to recover from the attack that put him in the hospital and absorb the incredible changes in the world around him, a woman approaches him with a distressing case: two local nuns have been bludgeoned by a mysterious man wielding a hammer, and more are sure to follow. As the police fail to act while the violence against the Sisters escalates, Jack seems like their only hope.

Luckily an old friend is there to help see him through and there is always Jack's dark wit and a drink to help shore up his mood.
