Summary

"Sarcasm Impact" explores the intricate world of sarcasm, a communication tool capable of fostering connection or creating division. The book delves into the linguistic and psychological underpinnings of sarcasm, examining how vocal tone, facial expressions, and context contribute to its interpretation. Sarcasm isn't merely a biting remark; it's a sophisticated form of communication that plays a significant role in social dynamics. Did you know, for example, that sarcasm can be used to convey criticism indirectly or to establish group identity? This book uniquely integrates research from linguistics, psychology, and sociology to provide a comprehensive understanding of sarcasm's impact on social interaction. It examines the core components of sarcasm, addresses its societal implications across different cultures, and analyzes its influence on workplace dynamics and interpersonal relationships. The book progresses from defining sarcasm and its key components to exploring the role of context and social functions, concluding with strategies for improving sarcastic communication and reducing misunderstandings.

Coyote explores the practice of meditation to catch a glimpse of who we truly are. His mask workshops provide for the possibility of “the disappearance of your everyday self [along with] self-criticism, self-consciousness, and a sense of shame…[allowing for] absolute freedom.” It allows us to experience Buddha's idea of no fixed self.

"Galeeb Kachra truly is one of a kind. A unique combination of optimism, can-do determination and relentless energy, he has the wiliness and moral integrity required to shake up sclerotic systems and sweep away logjams. His detailed account of five projects that mattered intensely to him, which did their little bit to make the world a better place, is sprinkled with humour and charmingly idiosyncratic, while packed with serious intent."
-- Michela Wrong, March 2021, author of "It's Our Turn to Eat: the Story of a Kenyan Whistleblower."
    From the author:
Do you want to help achieve change, but don't know how? Other books don't give you practical examples that are within your own reach. This book showcases real cases, based on Galeeb's international experience. It covers disaster preparedness, anticorruption, youth empowerment, judicial reform, book bans, and procurement reform. Written under the pseudonym "Carolus", Lyrics & Lines is a book of poems written, probably circa 1890 - 1900, as a gift to one he had loved and lost.
Love, Humour, Moralisation and the Macabre all come together in a most readable and enjoyable manner.
Who he was, when and exactly where he lived and his age at the time he wrote this book are unknown. That he was a modest man can be gleaned from his description of himself as "..a poetaster".
Beautifully written; these poems should not only appeal to lovers of poetry but to those who would never normally consider reading verse.

The Roosevelt New Deal was a series of domestic programs and initiatives launched by President Franklin D. Roosevelt shortly after he assumed office in 1933. At the time, the United States faced one of the worst economic crises in its history, with unemployment rates exceeding 25%, banks failing, and businesses closing down. In response to this crisis, Roosevelt sought to implement a range of policies to address the immediate needs of the people and the underlying causes of the economic downturn.
The New Deal was based on three primary goals: relief, recovery, and reform. Relief measures aimed to provide immediate assistance to those most affected by the Great Depression, including the unemployed, farmers, and the elderly. Recovery efforts focused on restoring the economy and creating jobs. At the same time, reform measures sought to address the structural issues that had contributed to the crisis, such as the lack of financial regulation and social safety nets.
Some of the critical initiatives of the New Deal included the creation of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which employed young men to work on public projects such as road building and conservation; the establishment of the Works Progress Administration (WPA), which provided jobs and training to millions of unemployed workers; and the implementation of agricultural subsidies to support struggling farmers.
The New Deal also saw significant changes in the regulation of the financial sector, including the creation of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to insure bank deposits and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to regulate the stock market. Other reforms included establishing social security, which provided retirement benefits to elderly Americans, and the National Labor Relations Act, which protected workers' rights to unionize.
