  This is a debut work by Washington, DC area native writer and poet. It's a coming of age tale about a late bloomer who grew up feeling like a misfit. It's also the story of a young Jewish woman who wanted to be an edgy punk rocker but was too afraid to incur motherly guilt. True to her character, she weaves her ardor for music and nature all throughout the book. The author grew up in the 80's when not much was known about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); something she was diagnosed with at the young age of five. She always struggled to keep up in classes and was teased for being too slow, too sensitive and too short. As a young girl and adolescent, her passion for music and the outdoors allowed her to escape reality. As life became more complex, the author turned to adventure, alcohol, marijuana and men.  
  She had zany experiences traveling throughout the United States, as well as Jamaica and Israel -- always on a quest to find "her" people and a place of belonging. The author epitomized "failure to launch" and tried her hand at a number of careers including: being a barista, a Montessori elementary school teacher; a recycling specialist; an administrative assistant; and an entrepreneur before finally landing. Eventually this small, Jewish girl with ADHD transformed herself into a woman of grit and grace. She found she belonged to a sober community that she never imagined she'd join and today, uses her life's lessons as a power for good.  
  The author now helps those struggling with ADHD, addiction, anxiety and other mental health issues to focus on their own paths to healing. She once berated herself for being an unruly dandelion stuck among organized rows of roses. In fact, one of the most popular ones was the 1963 train robbery in which nearly 2.6 million pounds was lifted from a Royal Mail train headed to London. Using intel provided by a man on the inside dubbed The Ulsterman, the group rigged the railways traffic light system to bring the train to an extended stop, during which time, they funneled the money from one of the carriages into a waiting truck by way of a human chain. 
  3. The French Bank Vault Tunnelers: On the morning of July 19, 1976, workers from a safe manufacturing company were called to the Société Générale bank to fix a faulty vault door that appeared to be jammed. When they drilled into the vault and peered in to diagnose the problem, though, what they found was not a loose screw or broken hinge, but a door that has been welded shut...from the inside. Also scattering the room was a couple of wine glasses, a portable stove, and a giant tunnel system that proved to be the method of transport for thieves, who had dug their way into the bank, spent the weekend there, and left with ten million in cash. 
  4. D. B. Cooper's Escapades: The subject of many conspiracy theories, D. B. Cooper (not his real name) hopped on a Boeing 727 in a trench coat and sunglasses in 1971. When the plane had reached cruising altitude, Cooper hijacked it, extorting 200,000 dollars before strapping on a parachute, jumping out of the plane, and disappearing into thin air. This aerial heist remains unsolved to this day and remains one of the FBI's most frustrating open cases. 
  5. The Botched Crown Jewels of England Theft: Back in 1671, a man named Thomas Blood (a cool name, by any standard) decided: Eh, I'm gonna steal the Crown Jewels. He reached out to Talbot Edwards, the keeper of the stones, with a proposition: if you give me a private viewing of the gemstones, I'll have my nephew marry your daughter (a nephew who, naturally, turned out to not exist). At this private viewing, Blood knocked out Talbot, smashed the jewels into pieces and threw the shards into his pockets, hoping to make a run for it. Though he didn't manage to escape, he did manage to escape jail time: The King at the time was so amused by this failed attempt that he let Blood off scot-free.

  John Adams has become one of the more popular presidents in history relatively recently, but it was not always so.   Sparky Reardon — who dedicated 36 years to his alma mater, the University of Mississippi — was a witness to the best, and worst, of times at Ole Miss. Reardon found himself in the midst of campus crises where he facilitated the university family through tragedy and loss (some involved student casualties); he navigated intricate battles for freedom of expression on campus (including confrontations with the Ku Klux Klan and loony street preachers); he gently guided students (and sometimes administrators and politicians) through complex judicial issues; and he had a rare, insider’s view of the evolution of Oxford, Mississippi, from a quiet college town to a vibrant cultural hub. In The Dean, Sparky lays bare the joys and hardships of what he describes as “the best job in America.” In 1968, Reardon enrolled at Ole Miss with an eye on law school. Two years later, his plans shifted. Summoned to the dean’s office to account for his role as social chairman in breaking university rules, Reardon experienced a pivotal moment of clarity. As Reardon remembered, “It might have been the result of one of our parties running too late or getting too loud, or perhaps there was a chance that beer was involved.” He realized that someone, someday, would need to take this man’s place. Reardon left that meeting determined to become the dean of students at Ole Miss.  Raised in Clarksdale, Mississippi, a young Sparky Reardon turned to books after a severe knee injury ended his sports days. Guided by inspiring teachers, he cultivated a passion for writing.
