Examining the significant influence of attitude on both personal and professional achievement, "Mindset for Achievement: The Science Behind Success: How Beliefs and Behaviors Shape Extraordinary Results" This book explores the science of how our ideas, attitudes, and actions affect the results we encounter in life, showing how minor changes in perspective can have a profound impact. The book, which is based on the seminal research of psychologist Carol Dweck, highlights the main distinction between a fixed and development mentality. A growth mentality promotes resilience, adaptability, and a love of learning, whereas a fixed mindset restricts potential and breeds fear of failure. Readers will learn how embracing a growth mindset can change how they respond to opportunities, obstacles, and disappointments. Along with psychological insights, the book delves into the neuroscience of success, emphasizing how neuroplasticity allows the brain to develop. Readers will acquire the skills necessary to reframe their thinking and match their behaviors with their objectives by comprehending how the processes in our brains affect motivation, learning, and effort. With its wealth of real-world examples, useful tactics, and scientific research, "Mindset for Achievement" gives readers the tools they need to change their attitudes and actions in order to achieve extraordinary achievement. This book is your roadmap to realizing your greatest potential, regardless of your goals—be they professional advancement, personal growth, or conquering challenges.Ver livro
This work is an in-depth examination of medieval and contemporary discussions of gender in Islam, focusing in particular on views of women. Ms. Harhash wisely introduces the discussion by clarifying the legal status of women in medieval Islam, which provides a useful framework for her discussion. While her sympathy clearly lies with Averroes, I was particularly impressed by the chapter on al Ghazali, which traces a nuanced picture of al Ghazali's approach to women, highlighting striking differences in his various works and connecting his (to the modern ear) unpalatable claims about women- to his embracement of Sufism. While Ms. Harhash is attracted to the "progressive" view of Averroes, she offers a lucid analysis of his core egalitarian statements in the commentary on the Republic without omitting to point out that his philosophical position is in some tension with the more traditional position in forming his legal decisions. Ibn Taymiyyah is probably the biggest villain in Ms. Harhash's narrative and is portrayed as a kind of antipode to Averroes. With respect to modern discussion, she focuses on Nawal El Saadawi and Fatima Mernissi, where she situates the modern discussion vis a vis its medieval counterpart and highlights differences and commonalities. Ms. Harhash does a good job showing how the critique of the oppression of women in modern days leads to the same question that she had already addressed in Averroes, namely whether a critique of unjust structures in contemporary Islamic societies can be separated from a critique of Islam itself. Overall, the thesis is a remarkable achievement. Ms. Harhash reconstructs the medieval and modern discussion with intellectual confidence and independence and brings out similarities and differences that are genuinely illuminating.Ver livro
A fascinating study of the legal underpinnings of capitalism, reasons why the system must be transformed, and actions we can take Even though capitalism has been conventionally described as an economic system, it is actually a deeply entrenched legal regime. Law provides the material for coding simple objects, promises, and ideas as capital assets. It also provides the means for avoiding the legal constraints that societies have frequently imposed on capitalism. Often lauded for creating levels of wealth unprecedented in human history, capitalism is also largely responsible for the two greatest problems now confronting humanity: the erosion of social and political cohesion, which undermines democratic self-governance, and the threats that emanate from climate change. By exploring the ways that Western legal systems empower individuals to advance their interests against society, Katharina Pistor reveals how capitalism is an unsustainable system designed to foster inequity. She offers ideas for rethinking how the transformation of the law and the economy can help us create a more just system—before it is too late.Ver livro
This illuminating book weaves personal stories of a multilingual upbringing with the latest scientific breakthroughs in interspecies communication to show how the skill of deep listening enhances our curiosity and empathy toward the world around us Third Ear braids together personal narrative with scholarly inquiry to examine the power of listening to build interpersonal empathy and social transformation. A daughter of Holocaust survivors, Rosner shares stories from growing up in a home where six languages were spoken to interrogate how psychotherapy, neurolinguistics, and creativity can illuminate the complex ways we are impacted by the sounds and silences of others. Drawing on expertise from journalists, podcasters, performers, translators, acoustic biologists, spiritual leaders, composers, and educators, this hybrid text moves fluidly along a spectrum from molecular to global to reveal how third-ear listening can be a collective means for increased understanding and connection to the natural world.Ver livro
"The climate of hate is unbearable, and it is destroying the spirit of America and the world. How pathetic we become to hate or prejudge a person because their skin color is different than ours. When are going to realize that love sees no color, and love is more powerful than those that perpetrate hate and hateful rhetoric. President Donald Trump can be blamed for some of the hate message disseminating; however, common sense tells us, that respect change any atmosphere of racism. A person's skin color does not tell us how much love we can give them, or how much love we can accept from them. SKIN COLOR is a book that explores the reason why we have become so blatantly hateful toward one another."Ver livro
