Summary

Pivot Persuasion Methods dives into the psychology of influence, explaining how strategic framing and understanding cognitive dissonance can transform your communication skills. Cognitive dissonance, the discomfort we feel when holding conflicting beliefs, is presented as a powerful tool for persuasion. By carefully introducing contradictions, the book suggests, you can initiate a mental "reset" in others, making them more receptive to new ideas. This approach contrasts with traditional methods, which often encounter resistance.

The book uniquely leverages the Pivot Persuasion Model, guiding readers through analyzing cognitive biases, crafting persuasive messages, and managing emotional reactions. Understanding the history of persuasion theory, from classical rhetoric to modern psychological models, provides essential context. The material progresses logically, starting with foundational concepts like resistance mechanisms before culminating in real-world applications such as negotiation and conflict resolution.

This self-help guide, grounded in psychology and communication, offers actionable advice for readers looking to improve their influence ethically. What sets Pivot Persuasion Methods apart is its focus on subtly shifting perspectives by leveraging internal contradictions, bypassing defense mechanisms for lasting change. Whether you're in business, marketing, or simply seeking stronger relationships, this book provides a framework for strategic influence.

In fairy stories handsome Kings and Princes regularly sweep fair maidens off their feet, transforming them into Princesses and Queens, and although a rarer occurrence, a Royal Princess can create a Prince out of the most unpromising of characters!

Over the course of his presidency, Donald Trump intimidated, silenced, and bent to his will Justice Department and FBI officials. He sowed public doubt in both agencies so successfully that when he tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election, he paid little political cost and, despite an unprecedented array of criminal indictments, easily won the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election.

In Where Tyranny Begins, Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist David Rohde investigates the strategies Trump systematically used to turn the country's two most powerful law-enforcement agencies into his personal political weapons. Rohde also reveals how, during the Biden years, Justice Department non-partisan 1970s norms that Attorney General Merrick Garland reinforced inadvertently helped Trump, and could fail to deliver a trial and legal accountability by Election Day 2024.

Where Tyranny Begins exposes how ill-suited both the DOJ and FBI are to serve as checks on abuses of presidential power. A round of historic reforms equivalent to the post-Watergate reforms that stabilized American democracy in the 1970s are immediately needed. A five-word warning coined by the English philosopher John Locke in 1689 captures the stakes in 2024: "Where-ever law ends, tyranny begins."

Until the end of the Cold War in 1990, the RAF had several major bases worldwide—largely in those areas where the service had been based during the inter-war years. In Cold War Boys Overseas, contributors recall their time at these foreign destinations. With almost half of RAF personnel serving abroad in the 1960s situated throughout Germany, the book starts its focus there with tales of monitoring the Soviet threat. The stories then advance to the warmer climates of the Near East and Far East where different challenges awaited those serving there. As the period progressed RAF squadrons saw changes to their equipment with Hunters, Javelins and Canberras being replaced by a new generation of combat aircraft such as the Buccaneer, Harrier, Jaguar, Phantom and Vulcan. Innovation of missile defense and the expansion of the role of helicopters were also critical at this time. How this affected the RAF is told by the aircrew and ground crew who served then. The stories that feature in the book reveal just how serving overseas was a different way of life and the chapters illustrate the many facets of the RAF’s capabilities across the globe. They also highlight a lifestyle that no longer exists in today's RAF. Buckle up and allow the Cold War Boys to take you on a thrilling adventure across the globe.

The origins of Ancient Egypt trace back to a time when the Nile River served as the lifeline for scattered communities that gradually developed into one of the world’s first great civilizations. The unification of Upper and Lower Egypt around 3100 BCE marked a turning point, traditionally credited to King Narmer (also known as Menes). This consolidation of power not only brought political unity but also forged a shared identity among the people along the Nile, creating the foundation for the dynastic rule that would follow for centuries.
Geography played a central role in shaping early Egyptian civilization. The Nile River, flowing from south to north, provided a reliable source of water and fertile soil through its annual inundation. These floods deposited nutrient-rich silt on the riverbanks, enabling agriculture to flourish in an otherwise arid environment. Settlements grew along the river, connected by the waterway, which also served as a route for trade and communication. Natural barriers such as deserts and the Mediterranean Sea offered protection from external invasions, allowing Egyptian culture to evolve with limited outside interference in its formative years.
The Early Dynastic Period (c. 3100–2686 BCE) saw the establishment of the first centralized state under pharaonic rule. Kings were not merely political leaders but were also regarded as divine beings, intermediaries between the gods and the people. This belief in divine kingship helped maintain stability and order in a society where religion permeated all aspects of life. Temples, tombs, and other ceremonial structures began to emerge during this era, laying the groundwork for the grand architectural achievements of later periods.
