Summary

A BOOK DEDICATED TO HOPE Humanity is at a crossroads between self-destruction and change. Are you negative and pessimistic? Do you feel uneasy about the future? Are you unhappy because of your daily problems, not to mention wars, crises and pollution? I will give you many reasons to become positive, peaceful and able to achieve peace beyond imagination! I will take you on a fantastic journey into your own mind, to go beyond it. In fact, the ordinary mind thinks it can change things, but it cannot. That is why we never solve our own problems and those of the planet. But how do we go beyond the mind to generate real change? Meditation is the main tool to change ourselves and the world around us. We can stop wars, we can stop crime, there is no limit to what we can do. The Maharishi effect, which has been scientifically studied many times, shows that with the power of our intention and meditation, we can actually do something in terrible situations, such as armed conflicts, violence, and crime. And if it works for the most extreme cases, this means that even in less tragic situations, such as our daily lives, we have a much greater margin of intervention in events close to us than we are used to believing. A limited number of street lamps are needed to illuminate the streets of an entire city, just as 1% of the population of a city, of a nation, or of the entire planet, who are able to reach a state of deep meditation, are enough to bring light and remove the darkness from consciousness. A small group of awakened people are enough to irradiate and enlighten all other people, who will unconsciously change their way of thinking and acting. Does all this sound like science fiction, too good to be true? Whether you believe you can or believe you can't, you are still right. Since the Universe is subjective, our way of believing the world, our beliefs, becomes our reality. What we are and what we think spreads and reflects throughout the Universe. Do you realise the implications of this? With our thinking we not only influence ourselves, but also the environment we live in, our planet, and even the entire Universe. We are a miniature Universe, but a hologram of the Whole, and we embody the infinite possibilities of the Universe itself.PUBLISHER: TEKTIME

    INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
A New York Times Editor’s Choice | A Kirkus Best Nonfiction Book of the Year
?The Inspiration for the HBO Original Documentary South to Black Power
From journalist and New York Times bestselling author Charles Blow comes a powerful manifesto and call to action, ""a must-read in the effort to dismantle deep-seated poisons of systemic racism and white supremacy"" (San Francisco Chronicle).
Race, as we have come to understand it, is a fiction; but, racism, as we have come to live it, is a fact. The point here is not to impose a new racial hierarchy, but to remove an existing one. After centuries of waiting for white majorities to overturn white supremacy, it seems to me that it has fallen to Black people to do it themselves.
Acclaimed columnist and author Charles Blow never wanted to write a “race book.” But as violence against Black people—both physical and psychological—seemed only to increase in recent years, culminating in the historic pandemic and protests of the summer of 2020, he felt compelled to write a new story for Black Americans. He envisioned a succinct, counterintuitive, and impassioned corrective to the myths that have for too long governed our thinking about race and geography in America. Drawing on both political observations and personal experience as a Black son of the South, Charles set out to offer a call to action by which Black people can finally achieve equality, on their own terms.
So what will it take to make lasting change when small steps have so frequently failed? It’s going to take an unprecedented shift in power. The Devil You Know is a groundbreaking manifesto, proposing nothing short of the most audacious power play by Black people in the history of this country. This book is a grand exhortation to generations of a people, offering a road map to true and lasting freedom.

    Surveillance - A Very Short...

Surveillance permeates every aspect of our lives today. Every click on the keyboard, every call, text or email, every purchase, every contact with a doctor or the police or a government department, each time you walk under a video camera or pass through a security check, and in many other ways, you are recorded, identified, traced, and tracked. Who processes this free-flowing data, how, and with what consequences, is a critical question affecting everyone.

Surveillance is not inherently good or bad but neither is it neutral. It urgently needs to be understood better because people's lives and life-chances depend on it. Today surveillance is central to doing business, meeting friends, organizing governance, maintaining security, and being entertained. Surveillance requires not just exploration and understanding but ethical guidance and political debate. How you get credit or welfare benefits or get on a no-fly list or are ranked as a consumer depends on surveillance. This Very Short Introduction investigates how surveillance makes people visible, how it grew to its present size and prevalence, how it came to rely on technologies of data-handling, and how it developed its own cultural features. Throughout, David Lyon also considers the ethics of surveillance, and explores its potential in prompting political struggles.

From the second half of the nineteenth century through to World War II, Eastern Europe, especially the territories that formerly made up the Pale of Settlement in the Tsarist Empire, witnessed a Jewish cultural flowering that went hand-in-hand with a multifaceted literary productivity in the Hebrew and Yiddish languages. Accompanied and sometimes directly affected by the dramatic political ruptures of the era, many authors experimented with various modernist poetics in the context of a culturally and literarily closely interwoven milieu. This beautifully illustrated catalogue presents for the first time some of the key figures of the era, including in each case a portrait of the author and a close reading of selected texts, including Yosef Ḥayim Brenner, Leah Goldberg, Moyshe Kulbak, and Deborah Vogel. Of particular interest here is the productive entanglement of cultures and literatures, of cultural contact and transfer, and the significance of space and place for the development of modern Jewish literatures.

Carcara, the wise eye is a story of self-reliance and determination. We all are singular individuals, independent and unique, but, contradictorily, dependent and inserted in a society in which we can stand out for our own effort and dedication. By themselves or with someone else, each child will always be unique, and we would like them to have the vision of their own power and resistance, to decide the best for them, recognizing the importance of the other. The collection "The 7 Virtues – Stories from Hawk`s Little Ranch was created to motivate parents and educators to tell stories to children, motivating them to think about human values. The characters, personified animals, represent the virtues and tell stories of the folklore of the State of Minas Gerais – Brazil, as well as legends, myths and manifestation of a culture. All stories in the book are based on true events that happened at the ranch of the author's ranch. It's a collection of children's books, with stories based on the folklore of the Center-West of Minas Gerais State. Through humanized animals, the author not only records the oral history, but also rescues values such as respect, honesty, solidarity, endurance, generosity and friendship, dating back to the time of Grandma, but always needed for proper social coexistence.
