Summary

Animal attraction is immediately evident when an adjunct professor accidentally walks into the Croton University event planner's office on Halloween. But Hugo and Zane are both hiding secrets right from the start.
Hugo has a special bond with his sister Hallie. She thinks the connection between her brother and Zane is both natural and magical, and therefore goes to extreme measures to convince the pair they belong together.
A year later, just before the next Halloween, Zane insists he must leave Croton. Devasted, Hugo wonders if he can go with him. Zane claims it's impossible. Animal instincts still draw the pair together. Once all truths are revealed, will that lead to a clear path at love? Can animal instincts and a little magic make the impossible possible?

Warm, funny, and delectably swoony—a second-chance romance with found family, a chaotic deli dog named Pastrami, and all the comfort-food you could ever want.

Sam Adelson has spent over a decade pouring his heart into Silverman's Deli, the beloved Cleveland institution his family has run for seventy-five years. So when a scathing review tanks his business, Sam develops some strong feelings about the critic responsible. Fantasies involving expired clam juice may be involved.

Then Jake Thompson walks through the door—Sam's first love, the one who got away. Reconnecting after twelve years feels like coming home, and having Jake around makes even the chaos of saving the deli feel manageable. But Sam’s fought to move on from the disaster that tore them apart, and now pretending it never happened is becoming more impossible every day.

As Sam falls harder than he ever meant to, Jake's past begins to catch up with both of them. Some recipes are worth perfecting, even when the first attempt was a disaster—Sam just hopes this one doesn't blow up in his face...

Idyllic, quaint, and straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting is St. Claire, Louisiana—at least on the outside. Beneath the veneer, it's anything but. That's the secret of St. Claire.

Born and raised in St. Claire, Lindsay Juneau's life was seemingly full raising a six-year-old daughter and caring for her widowed mother. Of course, things aren't always what they seem, and the newest resident of St. Claire isn't buying the ruse.

Veterinarian Nicole Allen is looking for something different. She finds it in St. Claire with its hypochondriac rabbits, shotgun-toting shut-ins, and eclectic mix of people. The most alluring, though, is a woman who's also looking for something different.

    Xander
There’s something seriously wrong with me.
For once, I’m not talking about the health anxiety that randomly pops up and wreaks havoc on my life. I'm talking about, well, everything else.
All my roommates have found someone to love them, and it hurts to see the guys who used to have me at the center of their worlds pair off and grow up, especially when it’s a reminder of how alone I've always been. I’ve always had an issue with relationships. With forming a connection with people outside of Seven, but this is more.
Because I want to find my someone.
Except the one person my brain has latched onto is the one person I can never have. The one person who’s there to help me when my panic attacks get too much.
    Nurse Derek.
    Derek
I should never have offered to treat Xander Moore.
And now here I am years later, my life on hold, while I wait day in and day out for the call that Xander needs me. It always comes, and I always answer, but I’m starting to dread those visits.
Lately, I’m looking at Xander in a way a medical professional should never look at their patient.
When Xander starts volunteering at the same nursing home that I do, I get to see a new side of him. The artistic, charismatic side that draws the residents in. I get glimpses of a man who’s so much more than his anxiety, and it does nothing to help my feelings for him.
Lines begin to blur and I have no choice but to stop treating him. That at least allows us to be friends. The only problem is, being friends isn’t enough for either of us.
It’s wrong, unethical, and unprofessional, but my heart won’t listen. It’s decided on Xander, and it doesn’t want to wait. Neither does Xander.
But if I want to keep my job, I have to resist.
I just wish he didn’t make that so difficult.
