A “hugely entertaining” history of the 1980s New Wave music scene told through new interviews with its biggest artists (Rolling Stone).  Mad World is a compelling oral history that celebrates the New Wave music phenomenon of the 1980s via new interviews with 35 of the most notable artists of the period. Each chapter begins with a discussion of their most popular song and leads to stories of their history and place in the scene, ultimately painting a vivid picture of this colorful, idiosyncratic time. Mixtape suggestions, fashion sidebars, and quotes from famous contemporary admirers help fill out the fun. Participants include members of Duran Duran, New Order, The Smiths, Tears for Fears, Adam Ant, Echo, and the Bunnymen, Devo, ABC, Spandau Ballet, A Flock of Seagulls, Thompson Twins, INXS, and more.   “One addictive chapter after another.” —Rob Sheffield, author of Talking to Girls About Duran Duran   “Tells the tale of some of the decade’s most unforgettable songs . . . in fascinating detail, letting the architects of these memorable records shine a light on how the sound of a generation came to be.” —The Hollywood Reporter   “The new wave era is often dismissed for its one-hit wonders and silly haircuts, but [Mad World] examines the period with a great deal of love and reverence.” —Buzzfeed   “A really informative and insightful read.” —People

Sibling rivalry. Sometimes, a kid just isn't ready for some little squirt to come along and invade his space, his own room. So what if there's an extra bed in the room; isn't that where the stuffed animals are supposed to sleep? How could a couple of otherwise sensible parents just bring a new kid home without even consulting their very own son? Still, a younger sibling can be in need of a big brother's guidance. And a big brother, even if not so very big, can have a lot to offer once he gets used to the idea.

Our Miss Brooks was a big radio hit from the get go. Eve Arden may not have been the original first choice but she made the role her own and gathered individual awards by the armful.

All the way up until its debut in 1949 women had been, as in much of life, the subordinate gender, supporters and flag-wavers rather than equals or the stars.

Our Miss Brooks helped change that. Here was a woman, not confined to life as a housewife. She was confident, funny and layered with sometimes conflicting emotions, trying to gain a boyfriend of her choosing and holding down a job as a high-school teacher. It was quite a menu.

Jeff Chandler played her shy biology teacher love interest, Mr Boynton. And the dynamics and laughs between themselves, the students, their colleagues, and principal, all played by a very fine cast, make this situation comedy one of radios funniest and finest.
