Summary

'One of the best in the field.' JON SNOWOn 8 June, 1982, some 600 troops aged 17-22 were packed closely together on the Galahad at Fitzroy, 3 miles from the front line, to liberate Port Stanley on 10 June. They became the thunderbolt target of Argentine airforce attacks resulting in Britain's most devastating military day since 1945 with additional attacks on two Royal Navy ships, including frigate HMS Portsmouth struck by five 500lbs bombs.Written as a tribute to the bravery of the troops as they suddenly came under attack, this memoir is filled with first-hand recollections from officers under attack. The first history of that fateful day, it is also the first Falklands book based on the official June-Sept 1982 Royal Navy Inquiry, recently declassified and made accessible at Kew Archives. Too Thin for a Shroud casts an unmissable, gripping new light on this dramatic part of the land-campaign that has been misunderstood and overlooked for forty years.

INSIDE THE CRIMINAL 'S MINDHave you ever questioned how a devoted mother could deliberately and coldly take the life of her own child in the bathtub—the very child for whom she had just prepared breakfast? What dark forces could have been at work within her mind at that moment? How did such thoughts take hold? Were they embedded deep within her psyche long before the act? What compels individuals to cross the most sacred moral boundaries? What hidden patterns emerge within their minds? What common traits do they share? For decades, scholars and scientists have sought to determine whether criminal behavior is the product of genetic inheritance or the consequence of environmental and social influences. In this compelling examination of the criminal psyche, Inside the Criminal’s Mind ventures beyond the headlines, delving into the neurological and psychological forces that drive some of history’s most notorious offenders—such as Andrea Yates, Jeffrey Epstein, and John Wayne Gacy. This work dissects the minds of those who defy humanity’s most fundamental moral codes. Through the advanced study of neuroscience and psychology, we expose the structural anomalies and chemical imbalances within the brain that may underlie their actions. Pioneering research on the role of genetics—initiated by Cesare Lombroso in the late 19th century—laid the foundation for understanding how inherited traits might predispose individuals to criminal behavior and how such tendencies might one day be identified, or even prevented.Inside the Criminal’s Mind offers clear, research-based insights into these unsettling questions. Within these pages, you may come to realize that the seemingly ordinary neighbor next door is far more complex—and perhaps far more dangerous—than you ever imagined. The little-known history of black soldiers and defense workers in the First World War, and what happened afterward: “Highly recommended.” —Choice   In one of the few book-length treatments of the subject, historian Nina Mjagkij conveys the full range of the African American experience during the “Great War.” Prior to World War I, most African Americans did not challenge the racial status quo. But nearly 370,000 black soldiers served in the military during the war, and some 400,000 black civilians migrated from the rural South to the urban North for defense jobs.    Following the war, emboldened by their military service and their support of the war on the home front, African Americans were determined to fight for equality—but struggled in the face of indifference and hostility in spite of their combat-veteran status. America would soon be forced to confront the impact of segregation and racism—beginning a long, dramatic reckoning that continues over a century later.   “Painstakingly describes the frustration, sometimes anger, and frequent courage demonstrated by southern and northern African Americans in their attempts to include themselves in the national crusade of making the world safe for democracy . . . one of the most comprehensive treatments of the race issue in the early twentieth century that this reader has seen.” —Journal of Southern History

“Yes you will absolutely be reborn, yes you will rebuild something more beautiful than before, but essentially a death took place in that moment and that is irreversible…”
    -a Survivor

It is an honor and a privilege to be an ally to a survivor of sexual assault. She allows you close to her pain and you help her heal—with no expectations on her. It’s not a commitment to enter lightly.
If Jesus has burdened your heart for a survivor, but you don’t know what to do, start with this book. It will take work, prayer, and patience, but she’s worth it.

The book has four main sections:
    1) What it means to be a survivor.
    2) What it means to be an ally.
    3) How to be an ally.
    4) Reach out to her.

My intent is to break your heart and prepare you to be the ally your survivor friend needs. You will learn about the crime, read four other books (listed below), and then, with your friend’s permission, you’ll write a series of letters meant to encourage her and build an allyship. It’s a process designed around her, her needs, and her safety.

And who am I, you ask? I’m no one special, but God used my friendship with a survivor to call me to this work. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know many more, and their voices are found all through this text. My hope is to encourage men to get involved in allyship and advocacy.
