Summary

Regulatory Evolution explores the dynamic nature of administrative laws, revealing how they adapt and change in response to economic shifts, technological advancements, and evolving social needs. The book argues that effective regulations must continuously evolve to remain relevant, highlighting examples where rigid, top-down approaches have failed. One key insight is how regulations undergo fundamental shifts driven by economic incentives and societal values.

The book examines historical regulatory shifts and analyzes the impact of globalization, the digital economy, and technologies like artificial intelligence. It uses legal case studies, economic data, and policy analyses to support its arguments. The evolutionary framework suggests regulations evolve through mechanisms akin to natural selection, where only the fittest rules survive. This approach provides a unique perspective on understanding and designing resilient regulatory systems.

The book progresses by first establishing a historical context, then delving into the drivers of regulatory change, and finally considering the influence of evolving social needs. It is written for a broad audience, including policymakers, legal professionals, and academics, offering insights applicable to real-world challenges such as regulating emerging technologies and adapting rules for environmental sustainability and data privacy.

What really happened to TWA 800? On the twentieth anniversary of the crash, author Jack Cashill reveals shocking new evidence.
TWA Flight 800 crashed into the Atlantic shortly after takeoff from JFK Airport on July 17, 1996, killing all 230 passengers on board. Although initial reports suggested a terrorist attack, FBI and NTSB investigators blamed a fuel-tank explosion. But skeptics have long questioned the official story, and new evidence has surfaced that suggests a widespread conspiracy.
In TWA 800, historian Jack Cashill introduces new documents and testimonies that reveal the shocking true chain of events, from the disastrous crash to the high-level decision to create a cover story and the attempts to silence anyone who dared speak the truth.

The famous author Honoré de Balzac used to say after sex “there goes another novel!”
Taking it literally, J. M. Tolcher sets out to write an entire book without ejaculating—an experiment in sublimation, desire, and control.
In just over a month, he attempts to channel his libido into art, diving into the ancient alchemical process—nigredo, albedo, citrinitas, rubedo—in a relentless search for meaning.
But what begins as a test of discipline becomes something far more dangerous. Libido, after all, isn’t just about sex. It’s the unseen force shaping power structures, fueling authoritarianism, and dictating the fate of the world itself.
Where does repressed desire go? What happens when it’s not sublimated? And can a man truly master his own urges—or does libido always find a way?
Tolcher returns to form as Australia’s hottest underground writer with another chronicle as cerebral as it is carnal, as philosophical as it is depraved.

    Reflections on War and Death

    Sigmund Freud

Anyone, as Freud tells us in Reflections on War and Death, forced to react against his own impulses may be described as a hypocrite, whether he is conscious of it or not. One might even venture to assert-it is still Freud's argument-that our contemporary civilisation favours this sort of hypocrisy and that there are more civilised hypocrites than truly cultured persons, and it is even a question whether a certain amount of hypocrisy is not indispensable to maintain civilisation. When this travesty of civilisation, this infallible state that has regimented and dragooned its citizens into obedience, goes to war, Freud is pained but not surprised that it makes free use of every injustice, of every act of violence that would dishonour the individual, that it employs not only permissible cunning but conscious lies and intentional deception against the enemy, that it absolves itself from guarantees and treaties by which it was bound to other states and makes unabashed confession of its greed and aspiration to power. For conscience, the idea of right and wrong, in the Freudian sense, is not the inexorable judge that teachers of ethics say it is: it has its origin in nothing but "social fear," and whereas in times of peace the state forbids the individual to do wrong, not because it wishes to do away with wrongdoing but because it wishes to monopolise it, like salt or tobacco, it suspends its reproach in times of war. The suppression of evil desires also ceases, and men, finding the moral ties loosened between large human units, commit acts of cruelty, treachery, deception and brutality the very possibility of which would have been considered incompatible with their degree of culture.(Summary by J.C. Grey, from The Bookman: A Review of Books and Life, v.47: Mar-Aug 1918. First sentence edited for clarity.)

Speed learning is a set of learning strategies that aim to achieve higher learning levels without unacceptably reducing understanding or retention. It is closely connected with speed reading but involves other learning techniques such as evaluation, listening, discussion, questioning and reflective analysis. The traditional approach is to use methods or a series of procedures that have been proven to provide a more effective roadmap to achieving the same objective. Some of the methods have persisted since ancient times, such as Mnemonics, while others have been the consequence of more recent scientific work such as Forgetting Curves.
Speed listening is a sub-classification of speed learning where students try to increase the pace at which they can listen while maintaining complete understanding. It allows students to absorb more details while listening in a shorter span of time. It is most widely used when using text-to-speech applications such as Speechify, audiobook services such as Audible, or Apple iTunes Podcast apps, etc. Entrepreneur Cliff Weitzman and speed learner Max Deutsch have made their marks to be credited with redeeming this learning type.
