Synopsis

Winner of a 2025 CMA Book Award from the Catholic Media Association: Catholic Social Teaching (First Place). In an era where social media metrics dominate our sense of connection and happiness, Colin Miller presents a refreshing perspective in We Are Only Saved Together. Drawing from the rich traditions of the Catholic Worker movement, Miller illustrates how true fulfillment lies not in virtual validation but in authentic relationships, shared experiences, and the pursuit of the common good. This timely reminder shows us how the joy we are made for is found in the practice of the Gospel, in the company of others, and especially in friendship with the poor. While completing his doctoral work in theology at Duke, Miller befriended a group of homeless men who were living outside their church building. As these encounters led to conversations that led to friendships, Miller realized that the Gospel was not primarily about feeding the homeless or meeting their physical needs but about being a community, and this is the antidote to the loneliness, isolation, and emptiness that plagues our world. Along the way, he discovered Dorothy Day, Peter Maurin, and the Catholic Worker movement. Inspired by their work, he cofounded a Catholic Worker House dedicated to common prayer, material simplicity, fellowship with the poor, good work, and everyday community. This book is not a call to become a strange, marginal, or fringe Catholic; it is a call to become fully Catholic by embracing the essential traditions that have always been at the heart of the Church and finding Christ in the places he promised to meet us: in worship, in community, in the poor. Following the little way of St. Thérèse of Lisieux (one of Dorothy Day’s favorite saints), Miller shares practical ideas to consider when seeking to encounter Christ in these places, such asexploring the power of shared meals and feasts;reframing our encounters with people in poverty through a surprising look at the Good Samaritan parable;ideas on how to live close to the land;discerning the qualities that bring dignity to our work; andsteps to embrace voluntary simplicity. We Are Only Saved Together is not about becoming a Catholic Worker; it’s about becoming a disciple who discovers friendship, adventure, and joy in the Gospel. It’s about pursuing a holiness so old it looks new.Are you ready for an adventure filled with meaningful friendships, community with the poor, and good works? It might not always be easy, but it is definitely worth it. Let’s go!

The journey to God is sustained by the exercise of the three theological virtues: faith, hope, and charity. But how do we properly understand and live out these virtues in the modern world?  In Faith, Hope, and Charity, Preacher to the Papal Household Cardinal Raniero Cantalamessa utilizes a liturgical framework to lead us deeper into the practice of the theological virtues. Developing a series of sermons delivered in the presence of Pope John Paul II in 1992 and Pope Francis in 2022, Cardinal Cantalamessa opens up a spiritual journey to Bethlehem in short daily stretches in the footsteps of the Magi.  Drawing on ancient tradition while facing the existential challenges of the present age, these reflections encourage all of us—modern Magi from the West—to lay down our gifts before the Great King: faith, hope, and charity.

Credo Book Award Winner – Natural Theology
"There are so many books on Lewis that are simply a rehash of existing knowledge; by contrast, this is a work of fresh, detailed, illuminating scholarship. ... Barbeau's use of Lewis's personal annotations in the books in the Marion E. Wade Collection is a revelation and makes this book a permanent and important contribution to the study of Lewis's thought." – Malcolm Guite, Girton College, Cambridge
Three Essays on C. S. Lewis and Romanticism
Many readers have heard C. S. Lewis's logical arguments for the Christian faith. Yet throughout his wide-ranging study and writing, Lewis often began with experience, intuition, and religious feeling rather than dogmatic assertions. The most profound questions of Lewis's own life, argues theologian and literary critic Jeffrey Barbeau, can be seen in his quest to understand the relationship between personal experience and the truth about the world around him.
In a series of three essays, Barbeau explores the influence of nineteenth-century Romanticism on the writings of C. S. Lewis. Barbeau demonstrates Lewis's indebtedness to Romantic notions of imagination and subjectivity, opens new contexts for understanding ideas about memory and personal identity in his autobiographical writings, and explores beliefs about nature and Christian sacraments throughout his writings on Christian faith. This theological and literary investigation reveals Lewis as a profoundly modern thinker and illuminates his ongoing relevance to contemporary debates about theology and culture.
Drawing on extensive reading of the marginalia in the personal library of C. S. Lewis held by the Marion E. Wade Center, Barbeau offers a fresh understanding of the influence of modern theology and Romantic poetry, especially Wordsworth and Coleridge, on many of Lewis's most beloved works. Essays and responses include:

    - C. S. Lewis and the "Romantic Heresy," with response from professor Sarah Borden,
    - C. S. Lewis and the Anxiety of Memory, with response from professor Matthew Lundin, and
    - C. S. Lewis and the Sacramental Imagination, with response from professor Keith L. Johnson.

Gain an understanding of baptism from four main traditional perspectives.
Of all the sacraments, the practice of baptism is often the most disputed. Christians hold different views of its exact significance, who should receive baptism and how old they need to be, the practice of rebaptism, and baptism as a requirement for church membership.
In Understanding Four Views on Baptism, four historic views on baptism are considered in depth:Baptist view: baptism of the professing regenerate by immersion (presented by Thomas J. Nettles)Reformed view: infant baptism of children of the covenant (presented by Richard Pratt Jr.)Lutheran view: infant baptism by sprinkling as a regenerative act (presented by Robert Kolb)Church of Christ view: believers' baptism on the occasion of regeneration by immersion (presented by John Castelein)
Each view is presented by its proponent, then critiqued and defended in dialogue with the book's other contributors. Here is an ideal setting in which you can consider the strengths and weaknesses of each stance and arrive at your own informed conclusion.
The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows for the evaluation of different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.
Resources for further study, reflection questions, and appendixes are available in the audiobook companion PDF download.
