Matilde Marín in Pharus II. Landscapes and Photographic Fictions again embarks on a visual journey that documents and recreates lighthouses of the world. This work illuminates with reddish tones the lighthouses that are the return home - in the reverse journey to Pharus. From the southern hemisphere to the north - now the artist goes from Iceland to the southernmost south of Argentina. In this displacement with documentary images and fictional landscapes Marín presents lighthouses that are not only physical guides at sea, but by their visuality now reveal spaces of fascination and are the occasion to imagine new narratives that revitalise these symbols of memory and history. Laura Malosetti Costa expresses that the lighthouses evoke concepts and narratives such as those of the voyage, shipwreck, tragedy, and are the result of both the artist's experiences and her literary readings. Adriana Musitano analyses the abyssal settings that partially duplicate the lighthouses in their reflections and observes that Marín astonishes with images that create a utopian space by creating photographic fictions that link the landscape of the Salinas Grandes of Argentina with faraway places. The lighthouses and constellations in this ebook illuminate our planet and the planisphere shows them in relation to the cardinal points, seas and continents. Marín narrates his return home and also his trip to Egypt, when he learns about the place where the first lighthouse was, Alexandria. The Lighthouses of affection are added, with photographs of her friends, remembering her.

Sex on screen is unnecessary, gratuitous, and serves no purpose. This is the sentiment on the rise as cinema becomes less and less sexy.
Xuanlin Tham counters that sex scenes can open our minds and bodies to the possibility of new futures, and seduce us towards an expanded political imagination. Through The Matrix Reloaded, Lingua Franca and beyond, Revolutionary Desires explores how the form's intimacies, transgressions, and dedication to pleasure can be uniquely poised to rupture dominant narratives of capitalism and the violences that flow from it.
Why is the sex scene, demonised as it is, therefore more politically important and subversive than ever? And how can it power a desire for something more?

When we think of the Renaissance, we often think of paintings. And indeed, many painters and sculptors were part of the artistic transformation the Renaissance caused. But there was more. The Renaissance basically formed a period of collective enlightenment and freedoms that put an end to certain tyrannies and false notions from the Middle Ages.
The Renaissance is a time in European history marking the shift from the Middle Ages to modernity and covering the 15th and 16th centuries, identified by an effort to restore and exceed ideas and accomplishments of classical antiquity. It happened after the Crisis of the Late Middle Ages and was related to great social change. Aside from the basic periodization, advocates of a "long Renaissance" might put its start in the 14th century and its end in the 17th century.
Rather than a few years or specific dates, let’s take a look at what the extensive time period of the Renaissance provided, and what it leaves us with today.

The Qing Dynasty, the last imperial dynasty of China, was established in 1644 by the Manchu people, an ethnic group from the northeast of China. The rise of the Qing Dynasty was a result of a combination of military conquest, strategic alliances, and a deep understanding of Chinese traditions. The Manchus, initially a small tribe in what is today known as Manchuria, were able to capitalize on the weakening Ming Dynasty and internal strife within China. This chapter will explore how the Manchu rulers successfully expanded their power and established one of the longest and most influential dynasties in Chinese history.
The Manchu people, led by the ambitious and skilled leader Nurhaci, had been unified under his banner in the early 17th century. Nurhaci’s military campaigns in Manchuria helped create a strong foundation for what would later become the Qing Dynasty. After his death in 1626, his son, Hong Taiji, continued to build on his father’s legacy, consolidating power and forming alliances with various Chinese factions. Hong Taiji's strategic foresight helped prepare the Manchus for a successful invasion of China. In 1636, he formally declared the establishment of the Qing Dynasty, marking the official beginning of their imperial rule.
By the early 1640s, the Ming Dynasty was in a state of disarray. The empire was plagued by corruption, peasant uprisings, and economic instability. The most notable rebellion was the Li Zicheng-led peasant revolt, which culminated in the fall of the Ming capital, Beijing, in 1644. In this moment of vulnerability, the Manchus, under the leadership of Emperor Shunzhi, seized the opportunity to invade China. The Qing forces entered Beijing and effectively replaced the fallen Ming dynasty, marking the beginning of the Qing rule over China.
