Sinopsis

There's a killer on the loose in Saltstone, Ohio unlike any that has ever been profiled. When lightning strikes, so does Rainman. Police are baffled because the killer never leaves any DNA behind and no clues to who he is.

When Agent Raine Morgan arrived in town to catch Rainman, Agent Razor Agudo was also assigned to the case. Raine wasn't happy to see Razor. Five years had passed since they worked together and had a brief affair. She hated shadows, and Razor was one big, irritating, handsome one that still affected her even though she didn't want him too.

Together, they had to track down a serial killer that was unlike any ever profiled. Rainman only killed in the rain and had devised the most unusual murder weapons.

It is months beyond the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. A father and his two young children are trying to make it through the wintry back woods of Oregon state to somewhere, anywhere safe.
They have been without food for far too long now and are weak from evading the walking dead they call PUDS. Between the cold, lack of proper shelter, and their fear, life is wearing them down. On top of all this, it feels like they are being followed, but it has become hard to tell if it is a normal, an afterlife creature, or...
They met up with a man who had a strange hat. He acted nice and even gave them some of the spice he had, to make what little food they may find taste better. Sometimes it's the little things in life that make the day worth living. He tells them a rumor of a safe encampment.
But there is something strange about this man that makes the father uneasy. Something about the man is familiar, and if the father could just remember what it is...
Uneasy, they move on without him.
Is it this man who is following them? Are they even being followed? Can they survive the deadly afterlifes who wander about everywhere?
Also included is a second short-short story that had not been published until now, called "The Regent's Daughter" — or "An Eye for an Eye", which won a tiny online award between authors.

This debut horror novel by the author of acclaimed short story collection Monstrous Affections “establishes him as a worthy heir to the mantle of Stephen King” (National Post).   Set in 1911, Eutopia “mixes utopian vision, rustic Americana, and pure creepiness. . . . Nickle blends Little House on the Prairie with distillates of Rosemary’s Baby and The X-Files to create a chilling survival-of-the-fittest story” (Publishers Weekly).   Situated on the edge of the woods and mountains of northern Idaho, the tiny settlement of Eliada is an industrialist’s attempt to create heaven on earth. But its secrets are soon to be unveiled, as Jason Thistledown, the sole survivor of a mysterious plague in Montana, and Andrew Waggoner, a black doctor nearly lynched by the KKK, delve beneath the façade of the utopian mill town. What they discover is science warped by ideology—and an unearthly monster that preys on the faith of its own true believers . . .   “A story of piano-wire suspense, grotesque horrors, and, above all, visceral insight into the race politics of American horror, and how they are bound up with the American project itself.” —Cory Doctorow, Boing Boing  Praise for David Nickle   “His stories are dark, wildly imaginative, and deeply compassionate—even when they’re laced with righteous anger.” —Nathan Ballingrud, author of Wounds “David Nickle is Canada’s answer to Stephen King. His writing charms even as it slices like a blade between the ribs: sharp, subtle, and never less than devastating.” —Helen Marshall, author of Gifts for the One Who Comes After
