A coming-of-age masterpiece filled with heart, hardship, and hope.

Widely regarded as Charles Dickens's most personal and beloved novel, David Copperfield chronicles the remarkable journey of a young boy as he navigates the trials of childhood, the struggles of adulthood, and the quest to find his place in the world.

Told in the first person, the story follows David from his early years of innocence through hardship, betrayal, friendship, love, and ambition. Along the way, he encounters some of Dickens's most unforgettable characters—both virtuous and villainous—including the sinister Uriah Heep, the tragic Steerforth, the eccentric yet wise Aunt Betsey Trotwood, the ever-optimistic Mr. Micawber, and the gentle Agnes Wickfield.

Set against the vivid backdrop of Victorian England, David Copperfield explores timeless themes of:

Resilience in the face of adversity

The power of personal growth and education

The importance of integrity, love, and belonging

With its rich storytelling, emotional depth, and cast of vividly drawn characters, David Copperfield is not just a tale of one man's life—it is a celebration of the human spirit and its ability to endure and flourish.

Booker Taliaferro Washington (April 5, 1856 - November 14, 1915) was an American educator, author, orator, and adviser to several presidents of the United States. Between 1890 and 1915, Washington was the dominant leader in the African American community and of the contemporary black elite. Washington was from the last generation of black American leaders born into slavery and became the leading voice of the former slaves and their descendants. They were newly oppressed in the South by disenfranchisement and the Jim Crow discriminatory laws enacted in the post-Reconstruction Southern states in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. EDUCATION THAT EDUCATES: Perhaps I am safe in saying that during the last ten days you have not given much systematic effort to book study in the usual sense. When interruptions come such as we have just had, taking you away from your regular routine work and study, and the preparation of routine lessons is interrupted, the first thought to some may be that this time is lost, in so far as it relates to education in the ordinary sense; that it is so much time taken away from that part of one's life that should be devoted to acquiring education.

After returning, ‘Le Grand Meaulnes’ embarks on a search to find again the lost manor and the happiness he found there. His tortuous journey, observed by his devoted friend François, is a moving depiction of the pain of adolescent love and desperate friendship.
Lauded for its powerful portrayal of adolescence, Le Grand Meaulnes found an immediate place in the canon of European literature from its first appearance in 1913. Alain-Fournier died in the year following its publication and it remains his only novel.

A foundling of mysterious parentage brought up by Mr. Allworthy on his country estate, Tom Jones is deeply in love with the seemingly unattainable Sophia Western, the beautiful daughter of the neighboring squire though he sometimes succumbs to the charms of the local girls. When Tom is banished to make his own fortune and Sophia follows him to London to escape an arranged marriage, the adventure begins. A vivid Hogarthian panorama of eighteenth-century life, spiced with danger and intrigue, bawdy exuberance and good-natured authorial interjections, Tom Jones is one of the greatest and most ambitious comic novels in English literature.
BOOK 14: As several gentlemen in these times, by the wonderful force of genius only, without the least assistance of learning, perhaps, without being well able to read, have made a considerable figure in the republic of letters; the modern critics, I am told, have lately begun to assert, that all kind of learning is entirely useless to a writer; and, indeed, no other than a kind of fetters on the natural sprightliness and activity of the imagination, which is thus weighed down, and prevented from soaring to those high flights which otherwise it would be able to reach.
