  The Strange Egg is a luminous gothic prose poem that delves into the mythopoeic to express injustice at the hands of abusive medical systems.

  This special poetry collection was assembled to celebrate the first anniversary of the creation of LibriVox. LibriVox volunteers bring you 38 different recordings of Art and Heart, by Ella Wheeler Wilcox. This poem, originally suggested by Betsie Bush, was chosen for this special collection due to a general concensus that the message of the poem corresponds with the spirit of LibriVox.The poem asserts that, “It is not art, but heart, that wins the wide world over.” And so it is with LibriVox: it is not only the books, the poetry, the literature that make LibriVox what it is; but it is also the people, the diversity of voices, and all of the different lives and experiences that affect the way a person reads a piece of text.   Jerusalem - The Emanation of the...

  The epic poem Jerusalem was in Blake's own opinion his masterpiece. It is the last of the great prophetic books. Originally produced as an engraved book of 100 pages (only one copy of which was every fully finished in the colouring), the poem develops and unifies many of the themes Blake had been exploring in earlier works. It is a complex and powerful work, full of dramatic imagery and sublime poetry. You might think of it like a poetic version of a Wagner opera. The edition read here is the first printed version of the poem - which was impossibly hard to read in the original. This then was the first opportunity to really explore it. However in his introduction Blake implies that the way to experience this work is to read it aloud rather than in your head. I can only agree, and I can also understand why few will do it. Although, somewhat inevitably, it is hard to do justice to the original, I hope this will give a flavour of this neglected gem. (Introduction by Nick Duncan)

  Julia has been let go from her job of 20 years, as a ground water geologist in Eastern Washington and must find a new way to support herself. She decides to pack up her belongings and return to her family's cottage on Pine Island. There she hopes to find a new meaning to her life, while living in the peaceful and serene setting that she always experienced in the northern woods of Canada. 
  She is surprised to discover that her old buddy, Andrew, still spends every summer across the river on Brown's Island, where he spent his youth with his family. The two had always spent their childhoods playing, fishing and enjoying the tranquility of island life as children. Once again, they share time enjoying the love of the great north. 
  Julia had left for college over two decades ago, to make a life for herself working on the plutonium ground water cleanup project left from the atomic bomb processing, at the Hanford Nuclear Site in Richland, Washington. There she had made a life for herself; not returning to the island she loved so much. Destiny forced her to reevaluate her life and priorities encompassing many changes in attitudes and lifestyle.
