An entrepreneur shares anecdotes from his prosperous career while offering readers their own roadmap to success in business. The backbone of businesses, the opener and closer of deals, the risktaker who bets on themself-that’s an entrepreneur. Jay D. Rodgers has seen and done it all: from the gritty start-ups to full-scale, world-wide businesses that generate millions in revenue each year. For more than half a century, Jay has started and sold capital ventures, from custom-made cowboy boots to the world’s largest breath-alcohol interlock company, and he’s helped many others along the way.The Bet is blunt and honest and offers no excuses—an entrepreneur always finds a way. When Jay’s betting, he’s betting big—as an entrepreneur should—on his business, his partners, and his experience to wrangle the best results. His advice and strategies for success are set apart by his trials, errors, and triumphs that come with the territory of serial entrepreneurship. The Bet is like a session with Jay. He’ll share how he did it, and he’ll show you how. You’ll learn: The value of understanding what motivates people An easy, never-fail secret to buying bank notes Why sometimes it’s more profitable to change the players than to change the game An important concept Jay learned at Harvard Business School An argument for why you should put all your eggs in one basket Jay will even explain the bet he made with the publisher of this book—a bet that guarantees everyone wins. If you’re an experienced entrepreneur looking for insider secrets or if you’re just starting out, The Bet will help you turn your business dreams into reality.“Jay did it. Biographies of George Whitefield, John Wesley, William Grimshaw, William Romaine, Daniel Rowlands, John Berridge, Henry Venn, Samuel Walker, James Hervey, Augustus Toplady, and John Fletcher. The reader will soon discover that I am an enthusiastic admirer of the men whose lives and ministries I have narrated in this volume. I confess it honestly. I am a thorough admirer of them. I firmly believe that, with the exceptions of Martin Luther and his contemporaries and our own martyred Reformers, the world has not seen any such men since the days of the apostles. I believe there have not been any who have preached as much clear scriptural truth, none who have lived such lives, none who have shown such courage in Christ’s service, none who have suffered as much for the truth, and none who have done as much good. If anyone can name better men, he knows more than I do.I now send forth this volume with an earnest prayer that God will pardon all its imperfections, use it for His own glory, and raise up in His church today men like those who are here described. Certainly when we look at the state of the church today, we may well say, “Where is the Lord God of Whitefield and of Rowlands, of Grimshaw and of Venn? O Lord, revive Your work!”—J. C. The Meghadhuta also known as Meghasandesam is one of the beautiful works of Kalidasa. It is a poem in Sanskrit Language consisting of 117 verses. It is actually one of a few minor compositions of Kalidasa. Being one of the greatest poets of Sanskrit Literature, he has produced epics like the Raghuvamsa Mahakavya and Kumarasambhavam and dramas like Abigyana Sakuntalam.
The ideas contained in this poem is simple but romantic. Alaka is a mountain in the Himalayas. The god of wealth, Kubera is the king of this place. He has a group of divine attendants working for him. These attendants are known as Yakshas. One of these Yakshas was very much smitten and obsessed with his wife. Hence, he ignored his duties. Kubera, therefore, cursed him and banished him into the woods on planet Earth. The Yaksha came to a mountainous place called Ramagiri named after Lord Rama near the present state of Chattisgarh in India and was residing in an ashram there.
The Yaksha spent several months on the mountain. Thoroughly dejected, the love-lorn Yaksha keeps thinking about his wife. His wife also keeps thinking about him all day and all night. It is the time of monsoon. The Yaksha sees a rain cloud passing by. He requests the cloud to carry a message to his wife. The Yaksha then starts to describe the route that the cloud should take to meet his lover. This forms the crux of the verses of this poem.
The works of Kalidasa are synonymous with the beauty of nature, lyrical poetry, dramatic stories, great heroes and sensuous heroines. The Meghadhuta focusses mainly on sensual love and the beauty of nature. Kalidasa’s genius lies in making these two subjects flow into each other in this work. For example, Kalidasa picturises the rivers as sensuous women, and he advises his friend namely the cloud to take interest in the rivers along the way on his journey from the plains to Alaka.
