La Costa Brava modela la fachada marítima de las comarcas catalanas del Alt y Baix Empordà y de la Selva, desde Portbou, en la frontera con Francia, hasta la desembocadura del río Tordera en Blanes. Se trata de uno de los litorales más pintorescos de España, formado por acantilados abruptos, bosques de pinos, calas recónditas y playas de ensueño.

Esta costa debe su relieve accidentado a una serie de sistemas montañosos que caen en picado sobre el mar Mediterráneo, formando acantilados rocosos que le dan un aspecto salvaje, con pequeñas calas donde los pinos remojan sus pies en el mar y extensos arenales –como el golfo de Roses o la playa de Pals– que confieren variedad al paisaje.

Los Pirineos no se resignan a perder su carácter de alta montaña al llegar a la Costa Brava, mantienen su personalidad y nos regalan bellos pueblos de pescadores y villas rurales colgadas de las alturas, humedales costeros de delicado equilibrio ecológico y hayedos que crecen al amparo de umbrías empinadas. El extremo oriental del Pirineo ha sido, desde siempre, un lugar de paso entre los pueblos y culturas de la península ibérica y el resto de Europa, lo que ha dejado en el territorio un legado muy preciado. Este patrimonio histórico-artístico, enclavado en el punto de encuentro del mar y la alta montaña, conforman un atractivo territorio para los paseos y excursiones.
