“A magnificently hilarious masterpiece!” Jenny Pearson on Monster Hunting for Beginners
Our hapless monster hunters are back – and this time they’re tackling dragons! Readers of 7+ and fans of Mega Monster and Shrek will adore this funny fantasy series from NI-based author Ian Mark and Belgian animator Louis Ghibault
When a dragon eats a bus on London Bridge, Jack, Nancy and Stoop are on a mission to track it down. But what does the dragon have to do with the death of Jack’s mum? And why has the monster hunting manual always filed dragons under ‘D’ for DON’T EXIST (things that)? Maybe there’s more to this ‘tail’ than meets the eye . . .
Packed with jokes, monster 'factoids' and hilarious footnotes while touching gently on processing difficult feelings and emotions, the 3rd title in this gut-bustingly funny, highly illustrated series is perfect for fans of the Dragon Realm series and reluctant readers aged 7-11.
In this award-winning sequel, Ian Mark weaves a tale of mythical creatures and folklore, where dragons are not just figments of imagination but a part of the juvenile world. The humorous undertone of the story makes it a delightful read for children, adding a unique charm to the old tales of monsters and fairies.
For fans of Louie Stowell (Loki), Jemma Hatt (The Adventurers and the Cursed Castle), Peter Brown (The Wild Robot), Cressida Cowell (How to Train Your Dragon), and Copeland, Sam (The Teeny-Tiny Bear Behind).

Xuanzang and his disciples encountered the leopard demon. The monkey tricked Pigsy into fighting off the demon. The demon returned to the cave and selected three capable goblins to change into his appearance to lure the monkey, Pigsy, and Sandyaway while he kidnapped Xuanzang. The disciples eventually recognized the scheme and found the cave. With a fake skull, the demon and his goblins claimed Xuanzang had been eaten, but the monkey saw through the ploy. The demon tried again with a real severed head, which sent the disciples into tears. When the monkey went to seek revenge on the demon, he discovered that Xuanzang was still alive, so he used sleep bugs to put the demons to sleep while he rescued Xuanzang. He then captured the demon, and Pigsy burned the cave.
