The conquest of Constantinople in 1453 by a besieging army of around 80,000 men led by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II ended the Byzantine Empire. The city's defense was in the hands of Emperor Constantine XI, who had 7,000 to 10,000 soldiers at his disposal and, likely, fell during the last storm on the city. The fall of the Byzantine Empire also marked the final rise of the Ottoman Empire to become a major power. The conquest has a high symbolic value in both Turkish and Western European reception; Depending on one's perspective, it is viewed as evidence of imperial greatness or as a beacon of decay and demise. In historiography, the conquest of Constantinople is sometimes cited as one of the events that marked the transition from medieval Europe to modern times.

    Introduction to Consent Culture...

Enjoy audio of the introduction to the book Consent Culture and Teen Films: Adolescent Sexuality in Teen Films read to you by the author.
Teen films of the 1980s were notorious for treating consent as irrelevant with scenes of boys spying in girls' locker rooms and tricking girls into sex. Contemporary movies, on the other hand, now routinely prioritize consent, ensuring date rape is no longer a joke and girls' desires are celebrated. Yet, sexual consent remains a problematic and often elusive ideal in teen films.
The introduction to the book Consent Culture and Teen Films: Adolescent Sexuality in US Movies demonstrates how teen films throughout the last several decades have shifted from trivializing nonconsent to emphasizing affirmative consent, or “yes means yes.” In doing so, they have adapted to “consent culture,” the cultural prioritization of obtaining clear verbal consent in all interactions—particularly sexual ones.
This chapter provides a historical context for how consent culture developed as a response to rape culture and traces how affirmative consent gained strength through legislation related to Title IX and sexual assault on college campuses between the 1990s and today.
Yet, at the same time, Meek reveals how teen films continue to expose how affirmative consent does not protect youth from unwanted and unpleasant sexual encounters. In the genre, we are confronted by innumerable problematic aspects of consent in practice—youth say yes when they clearly feel no; they insist on a consent and agency adults deem invalid due to their age; and they regret their sexual experiences.
While consent culture has provided some of the language during cinematic moments, it is strikingly evident that those words often fall short. Consent, it turns out, has not been the panacea we had hoped—that is, at least, not according to teen films.

Smith is an authentic true story about adversity, failure, and ultimate success. Smith performed on-air as an engaging radio personality and off-air as a program director in the hyper competitive radio broadcasting field.
Despite roadblocks, the author details how he took advantage of growth opportunities offered at both general market and Black commercial radio stations in the Philadelphia radio market. Experiences at Southern New Jersey radio stations are carefully detailed.
When the story expands to Washington, DC and Smith’s NPR management responsibilities, this radio memoir documents what public broadcasting really creates. You’ll learn what listener sponsored media attempts to do domestically and internationally, all in the public interest.
You’ll come along for the ride at the launch of satellite radio when the author and his team prepare two channels for a new world of digital subscribers across the USA.
What you must know to create a memorable internet radio online audio music streaming service is discussed in depth in a chapter about Smith’s fifteen years as a Live365 producer.
Music radio personality hosts have opinions about the music they play for their broadcast audience. So does Kingsley. You’ll get five crafted opinions in reviews about five award winning popular culture music artists expressed by the author in the paperback, eBook, and audiobook.
Radio is a cultural constant that survives despite innovative competitors. Smith’s Powerhouse Radio story begins in New York City, touches down at multiple USA destinations, and passes through Berlin, Germany. The narrative doesn’t end there. Experience the whole journey, in the full story.

If you have an alcohol or drug addiction problem, her book will uplift you and encourage you to make important changes in your life. It's not a preachy book; instead, it's very honest and forthright." Terry Hassman-Paulin, Editor at Silver Burdett Ginn (ret.)
"A memoir of a frenzied woman" Frank Dungan, TV Producer/Emmy Winning Writer
"Joyce Fidler tells a mind-blowing story. Being a musician myself who tripped through that era I knew from the first that this was real, but Fidler's unique POV made it a brand-new experience. I didn't think that I could be shocked, but particular parts of her story left me wide-eyed. The spiritual message left me teary-eyed." Prairie Man - My Little House...

An illuminating, insider's journey through the world of Little House on the Prairie and beyond, from Dean Butler, who starred as Almanzo Wilder on the iconic show still beloved by millions of fans as it reaches its fiftieth anniversary.

Cast just before his twenty-third birthday, Dean Butler joined Little House on the Prairie halfway through its run, gaining instant celebrity and fans' enduring affection. Now, with wit and candor, Butler recounts his passage through the Prairie, sharing stories and anecdotes of the remarkable cast who were his on-screen family. But that was merely the beginning of a diverse career that includes Broadway runs and roles on two other classic shows—Moondoggie in The New Gidget and Buffy's ne'er-do-well father, Hank, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Coming of age during a golden era of entertainment, Butler has evolved along with it, and today enjoys success and fulfillment as a director and producer—notably of NBC Golf's Feherty—while remaining deeply loyal to Little House.

The warmth, heart, and decency that fans of Laura and Almanzo fell in love with on Little House echo through this uplifting memoir, a story, in Butler's words, about "good luck, good television, and the very good—if gloriously imperfect—people who made it so."
