Summary

In 'The Lady of the Shroud,' Bram Stoker weaves a masterful tale of gothic intrigue and supernatural romance, exploring themes of love, duality, and the clash between modernity and tradition. Set against the mystique of the Adriatic, the novel employs a rich, descriptive style while incorporating elements of epistolary structure, which heightens its suspenseful narrative. Stoker infuses the text with vivid expositions of setting and character that echo the literary context of the late Victorian era, a time when societal conventions and supernatural beliefs coexisted in fascinating tension. Bram Stoker, best known for his iconic work 'Dracula,' draws on his extensive knowledge of folklore and the occult in his writing. His fascination with the supernatural, coupled with his personal experiences and travels, likely influenced the creation of 'The Lady of the Shroud.' The novel reflects his underlying interest in the complexities of human emotion and the dual nature of existence, which can be traced throughout his literary oeuvre. A Kappa is a Japanese water spirit, often depicted as a small, humanoid creature with a turtle-like shell and mischievous intent.
    Sometimes deadly intent.
Jennifer Levy didn’t believe in them though. Kappas were a stupid myth her cousin used to frighten her with as a kid; a story she hadn’t thought about in years. Not until she shared the legends with a young boy named Dale Oberman.
Not long after, Dale went missing, and two teens that Jennifer argued with were brutally violated by an unknown assailant at a lake party.
These events point to Jen as a suspect.
When a cucumber—a kappa’s favorite food—is found at a new crime scene, Jen realizes the mystery is supernatural and the myth of the kappa may be real. If not, then someone knows about her story time with Dale and is trying to frame her.
Join Jen and her new pal Shaggy as they face the Kappa in a bizarre novelette of friendship & revenge.

On such a night as this, a straggler from a theatre was wandering in the cool calming night remembering a lost daughter who he'd lost many years ago on a night like this. This day, to be exact, 28 years earlier. She was murdered with her husband as they walked the street he was in. He came as he always did this night to lay a rose for them. He did so unbothered, for all the times he had come. Before that night. He pulled out an old locket and looked at it sadly and opened it, looking at the pictures inside it. They were his daughter and her husband. The father pulled a red rose from his inside coat pocket and lay the rose on the wet road. As the father knelt laying the rose there was a noise nearby on the road like a splash in the puddle, he looked up and saw a man with a gun trained on him.

Dr Death the coroner stood in the morgue autopsying a victim attributed to his son the Necromancer. Then out of thin air appeared a grim reaper.
"I see dead people," it said the doctor jumped startled by the sudden appearance of the reaper.
"Ha! Ha! Very funny, boy," said the doctor humourlessly, "This is a friend of yours I hear say hello to him."
"I've never met him in life," The reaper the Necromancer said.
"Are you serious?" asked Dr Death grimly.
"Yes who is he?" replied the Necromancer, "It's starting to look like anyone can kill someone and frame me for it."
"That means there is another killer out there it is serious," the coroner grumbled.
"The people in blue won't believe you when you tell them it is another killer," said the Necromancer.
"Looks like we will have to catch them ourselves, boy," said Dr Death to his son.
