But now Ophelia Richards appears at his studio door, asking if he will buy her gold. The writer entices and unsettles him; he sees she is adrift in the same cold pain and loneliness as he is.
At the same time, faces begin appearing at the studio window, an unwelcome gift arrives in the post, gold goes missing.
Then comes death, then comes Detective Inspector William Kent.
Woven through with Morrow's fairy tales, Dead as Gold is a modern gothic crime novel veined with love, violence, family, and desire. Humans still use fairy tales to explore their deepest truths. So who is a wolf, and who is a sparrow?

Since the beginning of human interaction, there have been storytellers who have spun tales to inspire and capture the imagination. In homage to Golding's Lord of the Flies and the act of flinging a gauntlet before a duel, these two writers, Gordon Bonnet, and Marlon S. Hayes, have shown their multi-genre talents.
Two guys in a bar, grandmas, fathers and sons, and myths are a few of the themes in this collection, and the results are noteworthy, entertaining, and soul filling. What if an opportunity arose to have a conversation with one's younger self? Or, what if the pictures on the wall started whispering warnings? Ever imagined how an orc might view humans? What about an epic road trip across America's heartland where anger and grief also ride along? Exactly.
It's a duel of well-written short stories, with each writer inspiring the other to continue to ascend with their storytelling skills. It's not a competition, simply an acknowledgement of each other's talents.

From being a resident physician during the COVID-19 pandemic to living passionately in travel, romance, and heartache, Rodolfo Villarreal-Calderon is a literary chef to an audience who did not realize their hunger—until served his Word Meal. It is a two-part course: first, 99 poems, and second, an 82-page short story (novella).
The poetry is organized around the three abstractions that connect us all—Love, Time, and Death. Love of lovers, of dogs, and of self; the Death of body, our past, and who we once were; the Time within which this all transpires—the Time of your life. You are invited to explore each abstraction and their combinations. Buffet style.
In the drama that is a healthcare encounter, the patient is—and always will be—the protagonist. Get Well Soon! is a novella revolving around a patient admitted to the hospital. The patient narrator reflects on the experiences of being well and ill, as well as the subtle and comical workings of an academic hospital team and hospital stay.
