Summary

Concrete Strength Unveiled explores the profound story of concrete, a construction material that has fundamentally shaped our world. From its ancient Roman origins, where volcanic ash mixtures created remarkably durable structures, to its modern iterations in skyscrapers and bridges, the book traces concrete's evolution. It highlights how the reinvention of portland cement spurred the Industrial Revolution and how reinforced concrete revolutionized structural engineering.

The book presents a unique blend of historical narrative and scientific analysis, revealing how concrete's strength and adaptability have enabled architectural innovation and urban planning. It progresses chronologically, beginning with concrete's basic constituents and their properties, then examining pivotal advancements.

The volume addresses contemporary concrete technologies, including sustainable options, while also exploring the environmental challenges associated with its production.

‘I was so busy keeping him happy I didn’t notice how long it had been since I’d seen my friends. I seemed to apologise for everything. I was constantly tense, holding my breath, trying to predict his mood. Slowly my world became smaller, darker and lonelier.’
Coercive Control is an insidious fog. The first ‘red flags’ are so small you don’t notice them: a simple remark about how to do something ‘the right way’ or a suggestion about how you should dress. He cares about where you are and who you are with.
We all want the perfect relationship, but for the courageous authors in Coerced to Courageous, their soulmate was more like checkmate.
The first ‘red flags’ of Coercive Control are so subtle you barely notice them. Eventually, he has driven away your friends and family, is making all the decisions and controlling the finances, and you are trapped. These brave, resilient, brilliant women share the tools that helped them escape and rebuild their lives. They want to encourage and empower you to break the chains of coercive control and create the life you deserve.
Broken to Brilliant is an Australian not-for-profit charity where domestic violence survivors mentor other survivors to rebuild successful lives using the power of story.
When we saw the impact on people’s lives of our first three books, the changes made, the hope in their hearts, the joy and gratitude for their new lives, we had to continue to share stories of hope, healing & recovery. There had to be a fourth book.
We applaud each of our authors for sharing their raw, vulnerable & courageous stories. Our hope is that these books will provide you with the tools to take back your power so you can rebuild your life the way you choose. Each step forward is a courageous move toward your new life filled with peace, happiness & achievement.

This program is read by the author.“Uplifting. . . . O’Rourke gets an A-plus on both the moral frisson of the long fight and the rightness of the cause. . . . The happy warrior from Texas is inspiring.” --The Washington PostActivist and political leader Beto O’Rourke blends history, sociology, and travelogue for a thrilling, inspiring case for how voting rights is essential to a productive and healthy democracy. In We’ve Got To Try, O’Rourke shines a spotlight on the heroic life and work of Dr. Lawrence Aaron Nixon and the west Texas town where he made his stand. The son of an enslaved man, Nixon grew up in the Confederate stronghold of Marshall, Texas before moving to El Paso, becoming a civil rights leader, and helping to win one of the most significant civil and voting rights victories in American history: the defeat of the all-white primary. His fight for the ballot spanned 20 years and twice took him to the U.S. Supreme Court. With heart, eloquence, and powerful storytelling, O’Rourke weaves together Nixon’s story with those of other great Texans who changed the course of voting rights and improved America’s democracy. While connecting voting rights and democracy to the major issues of our time, O’Rourke also shares what he saw, heard, and learned while on his own journey throughout the 254 counties of his home state. By telling the stories of those he met along the way and bringing us into the epicenter of the current fight against voter suppression, the former El Paso Congressman shows just how essential it is that the sacred right to vote is protected and that we each do our part to save our democracy for generations to come. A smart and empowering book about the simple art of hanging out . . . and of taking back our social lives from the deadening whirl of contemporary life.

Almost every day it seems that our world becomes more fractured, more digital, and more chaotic. Sheila Liming has the answer: we need to hang out more.

Starting with the assumption that play is to children as hanging out is to adults, Liming makes a brilliant case for the necessity of unstructured social time as a key element of our cultural vitality. The book asks questions like what is hanging out? why is it important? why do we do it? how do we do it? and examines the various ways we hang out—in groups, online, at parties, at work.

Hanging Out: The Radical Power of Killing Time makes an intelligent case for the importance of this most casual of social structures and shows us how just getting together can be a potent act of resistance all on its own.

WINNER OF THE 2022 ECPA CHRISTIAN BOOK AWARD FOR NEW AUTHOR
Healthy relationships across cultures are possible. Dr. Michelle Reyes takes a close look at the concept of cultural accommodation found in Scripture—and especially in the letter of 1 Corinthians—to redefine how Christians interact with cultural narratives that are different from their own.
Christians—whose standard of living is oneness in Christ, whose gospel is radically nonexclusive—should be at the frontlines of justice and of cross-cultural unity. But many of us struggle to reach outside of our own cultural bubbles and form real relationships that move beyond stereotypes and lead to understanding, healing, and solidarity across cultural lines.
Why is that? Why is it so difficult to reconcile our call to be united in Christ with a celebration of different cultural expressions? What are the reasons for cultural differences and how do they so often lead to stereotyping, appropriation, gentrification, racism, and other forms of injustice? What does the Bible say about human beings as cultural image bearers? How do we reevaluate our awareness of culture identity in a healthy and constructive way?
These are just some of the questions that Dr. Reyes explores as she faces the challenges surrounding cross-cultural relationships in America today and her thoughts on the way forward.
Spoiler Alert! The way forward does require willingness to change. It requires embracing cultural discomfort. But by engaging with this book, you will be empowered to learn how to become all things to all people—that is: how to reflect Jesus' love in a multicultural, multiracial body of Christ and to share that love with a hurting world.
