Sinopse

When Queen Victoria is called upon to arrange a marriage for the dashing King Alexius of Vultarnia to save him and his country from the predatory Russians, the adventurous and beautiful Pythia takes the place of her cousin, Princess Erina, and heads for the small Balkan country in a British Battleship.

Princess Erina has just fallen in love with a good-looking Peruvian and Pythia could not allow her happiness to be torn from her for cold political strategy.

On her arrival in Vultarnia she receives a warm reception and she is determined to win the hearts of her new subjects and the heart of their cosmopolitan worldly King.

The King is surprised and impressed by his new wife and sees how much he could learn from her. But a Russian plot threatens to throw this popular new marriage into jeopardy and Pythia must think quickly in order to save the King and the beautiful country of Vultarnia.

Will King Alexius fall in love with Pythia or remain attached to his glamorous and seductive Russian mistress?

Will Pythia be able to stop a sinister plot to capture the King before it is too late?

And will the King discover Pythia’s true identity and that she is not Royal?

Find out in ‘The Queen Saves the King’, an exciting and moving romance from the incomparable Barbara Cartland.

The penultimate bloody and thrilling instalment in MJ Porter's The Brunanburh Series.
Can the Norse and the Scots exact their revenge over the mighty King Athelstan of the English?
    AD937
After the slaughter field of Brunanburh, a defeated Olaf Gothfrithson of the Dublin Norse and Constantin of the Scots narrowly escaped with their lives. In their kingdoms, failure has left them demoralised and weak.
Olaf licks his wounds in Dublin, whilst Constantin and the Welsh kingdoms who defied King Athelstan, are once more forced to bend the knee. As Athelstan’s reputation grows stronger day by day, their need to exact revenge on the overmighty and triumphant Athelstan has never been greater.
Olaf sets his sights on reclaiming the lost kingdom of Jorvik only for tragedy to strike at the heart of England and a reluctant new King, Edmund steps in the fray.
While England mourns the death of their warrior King, her enemies gather on her borders and England stands alone against the might of the Norse, Welsh and Scots.
Can the new King be victorious and banish her enemies once and for all or will England, and its king lose all that’s been gained and succumb to a new pretender? ** An epic tale of kinsmanship, greed and power, perfect for the fans of Bernard Cornwell's The Last Kingdom series.**

Between 1923 and 1954, Weird Tales magazine shaped the landscape of modern horror, fantasy, and science fiction. It was the crucible of cosmic terror, sword-and-sorcery, and supernatural fiction, a publication that launched the careers of some of the twentieth century’s most enduring genre writers.
WEIRD TALES presents a carefully curated selection of standout stories from the magazine’s golden age. This anthology brings together a wide spectrum of speculative fiction, ranging from mythic fantasy and Gothic mystery to tales of metaphysical horror and existential dread.
Included are key works by foundational figures such as H. P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, and Robert E. Howard, alongside stories by lesser-known (but no less compelling) contributors. Together, these works reflect the evolving anxieties of the early twentieth century: fears of science and progress, the collapse of known realities, and humanity’s uncertain place in a vast, indifferent cosmos.
To better highlight the thematic richness of the material, the anthology is divided into twelve distinct sections, each with its own introduction:
Cosmic Horror (divided over 3 of the 12 sections), Caverns & Ghouls, Fantasy Realms, Haunted & Cursed, Monsters & Spectres, Mysteries & Rituals, Science & Body Horror, Sea & Polar Horror, Vampires & Werewolves, Weird Wilderness
Organized to reflect both thematic range and literary influence, this volume offers listeners a unique opportunity to explore the DNA of modern genre fiction in its raw, original form.
Whether approached as a historical archive, a collection of literary curiosities, or a gallery of timeless nightmares, WEIRD TALES is an indispensable addition to the library of any serious reader of the weird, the fantastic, or the macabre.
