Summary

Theodore is an Alpha Werewolf who is suddenly granted guardianship of an eighteen-year-old woman he has never met before. She is painfully human, so soft and fragile, so very malleable. He thinks it would be easy, just another responsibility on top of many.

He has no idea how wrong he is.

Allison is the best parts of his late wife, soft, small and perfect in every way imaginable, as if someone had reached into his brain and coaxed out all of his hidden desires to create a perfect mate for him.

He tells himself to be strong and to stay away, to be respectable and kind. He tells himself to do the right thing.

He fails spectacularly.

"Please have a seat," he gestures in front of him and dismisses his butler with a wave. She looks like she would like to ask for the man to stay and supervise, maybe bear witness if he decides to have her for dinner, but he disappears with a resounded thump.

She all but disappears into the cushions, the bag placed on her lap.

He takes a breath, lips just parted to that her scent drags over the roof of his mouth. Underneath the acrid smell that comes with hours of travelling around crowds, is a scent that is purely her own and it is exquisite.

"I wish we had met at better circumstances, Allison," he says and tries to soften his expression. He is aware that he looks rather frightening when he isn't smiling. Sometimes, even when he is smiling, his men says he looks like a wolf bearing its fangs and snarling, threatening to attack.

Some Werewolves are more man than Wolf.

Liam is more Wolf than man.

"Me too," she whispers, blushing prettily. He wants to see how her cheeks would color if he were to reach out and yank that bag from her hands. Would she cry?

The thought of that excites him.

He swallows, reminding himself that he is supposed to be her guardian and keep her safe from the likes of him. He has more control than this.

Allison carries all the best traits of her mother in her, soft skin and plush rosebud lips clearly made to be bitten and kissed. A warm spill of blond curls fall over her wide eyes and she doesn't look as afraid of him as when she had first stepped in here, which he counts as a small success. She is lovely in that fragile kind of way, like she is made of fine china and needs to be handled with care. Her mother was more Human than Wolf. Perhaps her biological father was similar. There is no scent of wolf on her skin at all.

It is a rarity, to be so human that there isn't a hint of wolf in her.

Jackie wondered that she could stay upright, let alone walk, and found
herself tottering. Alistair made an amused sound behind her and swept her
up with easy strength to carry her through the doorway and right into the
shower. He set her down again, and she braced her hands against the
tiled wall, dropping her head forward until her forehead also touched. She
could have used another little nap and maybe an ice pack for her bottom.
Alistair had spanked the screw-up of the past right out of her and then
some. He pushed up against her and pressed a kiss between her shoulder
blades. She smiled to herself. This was her Alistair, the man she
remembered. Correction, the Dom she remembered. There were always
the sweet, gentle times after sex no matter how intense the others were.
They were something to be prized.
