Poetry. A form of words that seems so elegantly simple in one verse and so cleverly complex in another. Each poet has a particular style, an individual and unique way with words and yet each of us seems to recognise the path and destination of where the verses lead, even if sometimes the full comprehension may be a little beyond us.

Through the centuries every culture has produced verse to symbolize and to describe everything from everyday life, natural wonders, the human condition and even in its more hubristic moments, the crushing triumph of an enemy.

In the volumes of this series, we take a look at poetry through the prism of individual regions of England, or sometimes more quaintly known as ‘Albion’, or ‘Blighty’, through the centuries of its gloried history.

England, despite its perception of reserve and under-statement has, in reality, strode the global stage at various time in many things, both good and bad, from Empire to long distance running. Here our focus in on its literature. Famed for its fiction and dramas, it is equally admired for its plethora of gifted poets and the dazzling verse which has added so much to its artistic legacy. These classic poets are wonders of their age and of their art. Genius is written in their names.

In this volume we have collected verse from poets born in the East of England. These flat lowlands face out towards Europe yet within their counties are centuries of poetical history that indelibly mark out their talents as among our very best. Our poets include Amelia Opie; Sir John Suckling; Margaret Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle; Thomas Nashe and many others.

My stomach has invented several new knots and named them all after you. I'm so happy I could burst into flames. That's what she said. Falling asleep is like climbing a tall, leafy tree. The branches get narrower – spot me.

Need Machine clamours through the brain like an unruly marching band. Both caustic and thoughtful, these poems offer a topography of modern life writ large in twitchy, neon splendor, in a voice as sure as a surgeon and as trustworthy as a rumour. Honest, irreverent and sharply indifferent, this book will hogtie you with awe.

Palace of Waning explores longing for a sense of home. Through themes of place, loss, and self, images wander into uneasy complexities of truth where the search for home distorts the view of its presence everywhere. Readers are invited as far as space and as near as the sound of moving fabric.
    Review:
In A Palace of Waning, Pamela Nocerino’s luminous new chapbook, the poet traces the shifting landscapes of home, self, loss, and place. Here, “Red neon blinks / like it celebrates the danger” of icy roads, even as we are reminded that “The sun doesn’t rise / We rotate to see it.” Nocerino invites us into a world where beauty and peril intertwine, and where perception itself becomes a kind of illumination.

'In today's world, errybody got a story.
It's overwhelming. How! The humanity! O! Everywhere, someone appealing to yo sense of… empathy.'
Tambo and Bones are stuck in a minstrel show. It's hard to know what's real when you're stuck in a minstrel show. Their escape plan: get out, get rich, get even.
A daring theatrical exploration of the intersection of race, capitalism and performance, Dave Harris's play Tambo & Bones laughs through our past, blows the roof off our present, and imagines an explosive future for our world and for theatre.
Tambo & Bones was commended in the 2019 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting, and was first performed in a co-production between Playwrights Horizons, New York City, and Center Theatre Group, Los Angeles, in 2022. It was first produced in the UK in 2023 by Theatre Royal Stratford East, London, and Actors Touring Company, directed by Matthew Xia.

OverviewLife is full of Exits and Entrances... Some are beautiful, and some are bewildering. We may face circumstances that are beyond our control. What matters is how we choose to walk through them when they come. Follow Annalise and Oliver through many Exits & Entrances.1982She was determined to drive west until she found at least a sliver of blue sky. The persistent rain had decaffeinated everything. From the sky itself, to her hazel eyes that held nothing but a hollow gaze, the energy had long since been drained from it all. She was aware of the gray blanket that was weighing everything down, and knew she needed to be intentional about finding the sun today. Long drives could be good for the soul, and today was the day she would indulge in one.2022A full head of curly gray, unruly hair, lay against his left elbow that had sunk onto the top of the grand piano hours ago. His long, knotted fingers stretched out over the ivory keys that awaited his masterful touch. He'd not been able to leave behind the keys and the bench, not even for a beckoning night of sleep. This was the place where he'd spent so many beautiful hours with the love of his life.
