Summary

Not long after Olivia’s summer vacation comes to an end, her daddy is summoned to the Royal Florence Academy for Girls to meet with the school’s founder, Chairman Phyllis. Olivia’s academic and magical performance has been spectacular, so the school wants to recommend her for the position of “King’s Pupil,” a prestigious and coveted title that will afford her special privileges and duties even at her young age. However, accepting the title means saying goodbye to the Academy, leaving the school life and friends she has grown to know and love behind to enter private tutoring. As the dragon searches for some kind of compromise from the unbending Phyllis, he discovers there may be a better angle to approach the problem from, and a much more important problem that needs to be solved.

"Against Nature" or "Against the Grain"—is an 1884 novel by the French writer Joris-Karl Huysmans. Let's explore this intriguing work: Plot Summary: The narrative revolves around a single character: Jean des Esseintes. He is an eccentric, reclusive, and ailing aesthete. As the last scion of an aristocratic family, Des Esseintes despises nineteenth-century bourgeois society. His goal is to retreat into an ideal artistic world of his own creation. The novel primarily consists of a catalogue of Des Esseintes's neurotic aesthetic tastes, musings on literature, painting, religion, and hyperaesthetic sensory experiences. "À rebours" delves into themes associated with the Symbolist aesthetic, breaking away from Naturalism and becoming the epitome of "Decadent" literature. It profoundly influenced works like Oscar Wilde's ""The Picture of Dorian Gray""1. Background: Huysmans, the author, underwent a significant shift in his writing style. His early works were Naturalist, depicting the drudgery of working-class life in Paris. However, he found this approach limiting and decided to apply the minutely documented realistic detail to a portrait of an exceptional individual: Jean des Esseintes. The character of Des Esseintes is partly based on Huysmans himself, sharing similar tastes but taken to greater extremes. Huysmans transformed this "wild and gloomy fantasy" into the novel ""À rebours""12. "Against Nature" invites readers into a world of decadence, introspection, and aesthetic obsession."

After writing his first book, Oliver is kind of a celebrity around school. But when he gets caught in a cafeteria catastrophe involving some seriously explosive cherry cobbler, he quickly goes from being the “funny science kid” to one of the “Epic Barf kids.” Oliver needs to restore his reputation—and winning the Science Fair seems like the perfect way for everyone to forget about the whole barf thing.

There’s just one obstacle: Ana Lía Quintero, who wins every year.

Luckily, Oliver has the help of his geoscientist aunt (even though she’s a little, um, quirky). To have any chance of defeating his archnemesis, he’ll have to learn all about volcano burps and bacteria farts, how Earth’s layers are basically like a boba tea drink, and how school cliques and the solar system have a lot in common.

With laugh-out-loud humor, Oliver’s Great Big Universe: Volcanoes Are Hot! follows an eleven-year-old who’s taking on the whole universe—if he can survive middle school first.
