Sinopse

"Stand Up Legends" explores the lives and careers of iconic comedians, examining how they shaped the landscape of comedy and influenced broader cultural trends. The book delves into what elevates a comedian to legendary status, considering the crucial interplay of talent, timing, and cultural context. It argues that these influential figures didn't just reflect society; they actively shaped public discourse through their humor and performance art.

The book uniquely blends biography, performance analysis, and historical context to provide a nuanced assessment of each comedian. For example, many comedy legends challenged social and political norms, pushing the boundaries of what was considered acceptable, thereby transforming stand-up into a powerful form of social commentary.

"Stand Up Legends" progresses by first establishing the criteria for comedy legends, then profiling selected comedians to dissect their techniques, and finally evaluating their enduring influence. Through detailed analyses of performances, historical recordings, and critical reviews, readers gain insights into the creative processes and legacies of these influential figures. The book also touches upon sociology, media studies, and performance theory, providing a comprehensive analysis of the art form and demonstrating how comedy acts as a mirror reflecting societal anxieties.

2 Years of Crazy Ideas and Implementation, Trial and Error, and Misunderstandings Packed into One Book!
Take a journey with HR turned Entrepreneur through his first two years of entrepreneurship, from hiring his first project intern to adding 20+ over the next two years, from publishing a novel having a filmy title to building a SaaS application that reached pretty close to getting funding, from being invited to attend Digital India event inaugurated by Prime Minister of India to getting examined by a Clinical Physiatrist.
In a true ‘as long as we are still alive, there is another wave to ride’ fashion, Mayank did not miss the opportunity when COVID-19 turned the world upside down and forced him to take a path he had always desired but never planned. The book is written in a first-person narrative style that is both playfully self-deprecating and boastful and is full of anecdotes.
In ‘Brick by Brick…and one step at a time’, you will get insights about taking risks, building teams, creating products, choosing mentors, and prioritizing what truly matters in life - our family.

In 1951 American terrorism was homegrown. There were no battles fought on American soil, yet there were 12 bombings targeting black Americans, Catholics, and Jews in "Jim Crow" Florida. One of those bombs was, symbolically, heard around the world.Harry T. Moore and his wife, Harriette, were murdered on Christmas night 1951 by racist terrorists. Ironically, Harry knew he was a target of the KKK but swore he would keep going, working on rights for African Americans.WWll had just ended and apart from Pearl Harbor, Americans had never experienced the shock and tragedy of war on 'home soil'. Americans, for a long time, paid little attention to the persecution of blacks and other minorities, despite the multitude of violent, racist episodes, not dissimilar from events in Nazi Germany. This book explores the events leading up to the Moore assassinations and follows long after, with extensive investigations by the FBI, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Brevard County Sheriff's Office, and the Dept. of Justice. What they uncovered was remarkable, and the corruption that accompanied the crime was shocking. The Bomb Heard Around the World reveals new information and facts which exposes both savage corruption and exceptional courage over decades in America. The Moore assassinations became an international referendum on America and its values. At the end of WWII the world turned to America as the beacon of freedom and liberty, yet after the deaths of the Moore’s, world opinion shifted. This journey through their lives and deaths is a road trip through the history of America and while this is the story of the Moore's, it is also a story for today. With many unjustified killings of blacks in America today, the racial divide has widened.Decades after the assassinations, a Republican Attorney General, Charlie Crist, would take on this criminal case in an attempt to solve the assassinations once and for all. He faced enormous political pressures yet stayed the course.

The Wild West and the frontier have long held a special place in the narrative of American history, and all of the legends and folk heroes who lived in the 19th century owe their reputation to the original American frontier folk hero, Daniel Boone. Boone was literally a trailblazer: the legendary pioneer established his Wilderness Road by striking west into present-day Kentucky and establishing Boonesborough, one of the earliest white settlements west of the Appalachians. Hundreds of thousands of settlers would follow his path by the end of the 18th century.
While that was an important and proud legacy for the former Revolutionary War militiaman and Virginia State Assemblyman, Boone became known for the outsized tales and adventures associated with his foray into the frontier. Far and wide, people spoke of Boone’s expert marksmanship, his encounters with wild bears, and his hardscrabble frontier life, making him a living legend and the prototypical Western frontier folk hero in America.
Of all the legends and folk heroes who lived in the 19th century, none became as famous as Davy Crockett, “The King of the Wild Frontier”. Crockett had the distinction of being a living legend in his own life. Known as a hardscrabble frontiersman who could spin a good yarn but who also took a no-nonsense approach that brought him from the backwoods of Tennessee to the halls of Congress. Though he served during the presidency of another Westerner, Andrew Jackson, Crockett was very much his own man, and he was distrustful of other politicians, a sentiment that has only endured him further to subsequent generations of Americans.
In 1834, Crockett was promoting his autobiography, which provided colorful accounts of his life on the frontier, all while facing reelection.

Throughout the long centuries of human history is the want, and the need, to share information, to exchange ideas and for that knowledge and experience, for curiosity and learning, to be the basis of a civil society.
In literature the ambition is much narrower. In order to be known, to be popular, you had to be published. And for that people had to know you existed and your ideas worth reading. Obviously for most of humanity’s time people couldn’t read and texts couldn’t be published in any great number.
In the 15th Century Gutenberg’s printing press began the revolution to address the second and by the 19th century had gathered pace with startling speed and mass distribution. Education for the many was brought in to help people understand more of their world and, with new skills, how to have a better place within it. Now, if the powers that owned the presses and means of distribution agreed an audience would now be able to avail themselves of your ideas, your printed words.
Sadly, in the thirst for the new, the recent and the past fell from sight, relegated to dark corners and dusty shelves.
But the printed word is rarely without someone, somewhere busying themselves through piles of papers and books rediscovering what a good story is, whatever its age.

In this volume we offer up a small selection of those talents whose time has now come again.
