Sinossi

Allan Cunningham's "The Complete Works of Robert Burns: Containing his Poems, Songs, and Correspondence" serves as a definitive anthology that meticulously compiles the transcendent poetry and heartfelt songs of Scotland's national bard, Robert Burns. Featuring rich narrative styles that intertwine lyrical beauty with folk traditions, this collection not only encapsulates Burns's distillation of the human experience but also places it within the context of late 18th-century Romanticism. The book is a testament to Burns's unwavering connection to nature, love, and the struggles of the common man, providing readers with an intimate glimpse into the poet's thoughts through his extensive correspondence. Allan Cunningham, himself a noted poet and biographer, was deeply inspired by Burns'Äôs life and work, which undeniably influenced his dedication to collecting and editing this comprehensive volume. Born into humble beginnings and having faced various adversities, Cunningham understood the socio-cultural realities that shaped Burns's writing, allowing him to bring forth the textured nuances of the poet's voice while enhancing the accessibility of Burns'Äôs works to a wider audience. This anthology is an essential read for both scholars and casual enthusiasts of poetry, as it highlights the enduring legacy of Robert Burns and his profound impact on literature and culture. Cunningham'Äôs careful curation invites readers to explore the rich emotional landscape of Burns's verses and appreciate the historical significance of his contributions to Scottish identity.

Quietly reflective, the beautifully written poems in this slim volume offer a welcome respite from the noisy insistence of modern life. The language, now simple and direct, now rich in associations, double-meanings, and imagery, has its own natural rhythm and appeal regardless of subject and rhyme. Intriguing, absorbing, thought-provoking, the poems are innovative and fresh and the intensity of the verses in places will undoubtedly strike a chord with readers of all kinds - both established readers of poetry, those who read poetry now and again, and those
turning to poetry for the first time. Largely relating one person's take on how it is to be in the world, the poems address such aspects of life as time, being, loss, culture, and contingency. The collection is divided into three sections - non-rhyming poems, rhyming poems, and a
concluding section of lighter, more humorous verses, with each of two additional poems serving as foreword and afterword.

    My Baby First Birthday

Radiant and tender, My Baby First Birthday is a collection that examines innocence, asking us who gets to be loved and who has to deplete themselves just to survive. It's about existence and nonexistence, about being born—without consent. Jenny Zhang writes about accepting pain, about the way we fetishize womanhood and motherhood, and reduce women to their violations, traumas, and body parts. She questions the way we feminize and racialize nurturing, and live in service of other people's dreams. Her poems explore the obscenity of patriarchy, whiteness, and capitalism, the violence of rescue and heroism.

The magic trick in this book is that despite all these themes, the book never feels like some jeremiad. Zhang uses friendship as a lyric. She seeks tenderness, radiant beauty, and having love for your mistakes. Through all this, she writes about being alone—really alone, like why-was-I-ever-born alone—and trying, despite everything, to reach out and touch something—skin to skin, animal to animal.

    About the Book
Dallas Falkenhayn bakes and sells the most amazing bread. He is excellent in the kitchen. Creative. Careful. Precise. His only problem is there is an entire world that exists outside of his kitchen. He tries not to think about it. Or visit it.
Flannel, Georgia is a tiny town in southern Georgia. They have an alligator processing plant. A high school. And the most railway traffic in the entire south-east. Not much changes in Flannel. And when things do change, they don’t change very quickly.
Dallas doesn’t want to go to Flannel, but he has too. Flannel doesn’t particularly want a bakery, but it gets one.
And then there is that whole murder thing that happens.
    About the Author
Clay is very boring. That’s why he writes. He really likes to stay at home. If there is ever a choice between going and not going literally anywhere --well that’s not a choice at all.
His goal in life is to be in his PJs by five pm, everyday. On good days he doesn’t get out his PJs in the first place. He loves movies, baseball, and board games. His favorite thing in the world is his family. And his favorite thing not in the world is the James Webb Space Telescope. Unless we’re counting Jedis. If we’re counting Jedis than he’ll take Luke Skywalker over James Webb.
