Summary

"Data Structures Guide" offers a comprehensive exploration of how to organize and manage data efficiently in modern computing, focusing on fundamental structures that form the backbone of effective programming. The book systematically examines three core areas: linear data structures (arrays and linked lists), hierarchical structures (trees), and their practical implementations, making complex concepts accessible through a problem-first approach that demonstrates real-world applications.

Beginning with the historical context of data organization methods, the book progresses through four main sections, covering fundamentals of memory management, linear structures, tree-based structures, and advanced optimization techniques. What sets this guide apart is its emphasis on practical problem-solving, presenting each data structure as a solution to specific programming challenges rather than mere abstract concepts.

The material is enriched with empirical performance analyses and complexity calculations, helping readers understand not just how these structures work, but when and why to use them. The book bridges theoretical understanding with practical application, featuring code examples in multiple programming languages and covering implementations ranging from basic memory allocation to advanced optimization techniques.

While primarily targeting computer science students and software developers, it serves as an invaluable resource for anyone working on performance-critical applications or preparing for technical interviews. Throughout the text, readers learn to make informed decisions about data organization that directly impact program efficiency and maintainability, with examples drawn from web development, mobile apps, game programming, and database management.

When Robert Zubrin published his classic book The Case for Mars a quarter century ago, setting foot on the Red Planet seemed a fantasy. Today, manned exploration is certain, and as Zubrin affirms in The New World on Mars, so too is colonization.

We will settle on Mars, and with our knowledge of the planet, analyzed in depth by Dr. Zubrin, we will utilize the resources and tackle the challenges that await us. What we will we build? Populous Martian city-states producing air, water, food, power, and more. Zubrin's Martian economy will pay for necessary imports and generate income from varied enterprises, such as real estate sales—homes that are airtight and protect against cosmic space radiation, with fish-farm aquariums positioned overhead, letting in sunlight and blocking cosmic rays while providing fascinating views. Zubrin even predicts the Red Planet customs, social relations, and government that will overcome traditional forms of oppression to draw Earth immigrants.

With all of this in place, Zubrin's Red Planet will become a pressure cooker for invention, benefiting humans on Earth, Mars, and beyond. We can create this magnificent future, making life better, less fatalistic. The New World on Mars proves that there is no point killing each other over provinces and limited resources when, together, we can create planets.

Modern science and physics in particular, primarily consists of two basic theories, namely the general relativity or particle physics and the theory of gravity. There had been great heights scaled by these two theories taken together in the past, since the very beginning. Hence, it’s highly surprising to accept the fact that the overall picture given by these two theories taken together reflects a higher degree of inconsistency. This inconsistency arises mainly after taking into consideration a part of the theory, the standard model, as a quantum theory while the other, gravity, as a classical theory. At a first glance, it may appear that quantizing general relativity may remove the inconsistencies. If one performs an expansion in terms of Feynman diagrams, the technique used in the standard model, then one finds infinities that cannot be absorbed in a renormalization of the Cosmological constant also known as Newton constant.
In fact as one goes to higher and higher orders in perturbation theory one would have to include more and more counter terms. In other words, the theory is not renormalizable. Hence, the most crucial principle in constructing the so called Standard model is not capable to hold firm. What is more surprising to an observer is the fact that an inconsistent theory could fit in so well with the experiments, apparently explaining it flawlessly. What happens is that quantum gravity effects are usually very small due to the weakness of gravity relative to other forces. The effects of gravity are proportional to the energy or mass, so they see a rise in high energies.

"Mark writes candidly and hilariously about the state of Green politics in Canada." - Joseph Planta, TheCommentary.ca
"It's great... Some of the details, my god, they make working in that party sound like living in a house of mirrors... Ouch." - Arshy Mann, The Hatchet
Mark Leiren-Young, a lifelong environmentalist and Leacock Medal-winning humour writer, journeys to the heart of greenness to reveal the toxic sludge of Canadian eco-politics.
For a brief moment in 2019, it looked like Elizabeth May’s Green wave could change Canadian politics and finally wield real power in Ottawa. During that brief moment, Leiren-Young was a campaign manager in a riding the federal Greens were sure to win. He quit on discovering that there was only one thing stopping the Green Party of Canada from changing the country’s electoral landscape forever: the Green Party of Canada.
The Greens were not ready for prime time. Or late night. Or four a.m., after last call, when voters stop being picky and are desperate for anyone with a nice smile. Once the spotlight hit, the Greens wilted, never to recover.
A comedic take on the sorry state of Canada’s environmental politics, Greener Than Thou explores how the Green party has repeatedly shot itself in the foot, blasted out its kneecaps, and done everything in its power to ensure it will never have a say in decisions that shape the future of our planet.
