She hadn’t even noticed when the noise from the mower had stopped, or his quiet footsteps as he crossed the kitchen and stood behind her. His shirt was off, perhaps due to the muggy June heat, and all he wore was a pair of jeans. They rode low on his lean hips, and his bare skin seemed to glow with youthful vitality. Karen flushed, reminded of the scene in her daughters’ bedroom. She had held Alex in her arms when he was barely three hours old. But he wasn’t a baby any more. Or even her dead sister’s son. He was a man. She bent her head, hiding her eyes as she scrubbed at a stain. “I’m used to it,” she said. “You shouldn’t be.” Strong arms came around her waist, clasping her loosely. His breath stirred the hair on the back of her neck, making her skin prickle. “Nobody should get used to being treated like crap. You’ve been married how long? And he takes you for granted.” His voice rose into a nasal whine. “He’s like a kid, for Chrissake. Where’s my dinner? Where’s my socks? Me me me want want want mine mine mine!” Almost against her will, Karen giggled. “A woman like you should be appreciated, Aunt Karen,” Alex said into her ear. She could smell him now, clean male sweat and fresh-mown grass. His voice lowered. “Cherished. Loved.” She smiled at him in the window, though her stomach did a slow, uneasy flip. “Thanks, honey.” His arms tightened a little bit about her. Not enough to scare her, but enough so she could feel the strength of his body. And something else. The firm length of an unmistakable erection, pressing through his jeans and into her bottom. Karen bit her lip. But she couldn’t stop the instinctive roll of her rear end back into Alex’s hard-on until it was too late to stop.
