Sinossi

"Worlds Strongest Materials" offers a comprehensive journey through the fascinating realm of materials science, exploring everything from natural diamonds to cutting-edge carbon nanotubes. The book masterfully connects the microscopic world of atomic bonds and crystalline structures to the practical applications that shape our modern world, making complex scientific concepts accessible through clear analogies and real-world examples.

Beginning with fundamental questions about molecular-level strength, the narrative progresses through three main sections: crystalline structures and atomic bonds, composite materials (both natural and synthetic), and emerging breakthroughs in materials science. The book examines how materials perform under various conditions, including extreme temperatures and pressures, while incorporating insights from multiple disciplines such as physics, chemistry, and engineering.

Of particular interest is the exploration of natural materials like nacre (mother-of-pearl) alongside engineered substances like carbon fiber reinforced polymers, highlighting nature's influence on modern material development. The book bridges pure science and practical engineering, making it valuable for both specialists and general readers interested in scientific advancement.

By examining materials from prehistoric tools to quantum materials, it maintains a strong focus on verified properties and real-world applications rather than speculation. The content is particularly relevant for engineering students and industry professionals, offering both theoretical understanding and practical knowledge for material selection and application, while addressing crucial contemporary issues such as sustainability and cost-effectiveness in material choices.

Treatise on Light was published in 1690 and is probably the largest scientific volume on light published before Newton's Opticks. The book explains how light travels (i.e., that it has a certain velocity), and what happens when it hits a surface (refraction and reflection). A large portion of the book is devoted to the double refraction occurring in Iceland chrystal, and all drawn conclusions are proved geometrically. Christiaan Huygens (1629 - 1695) was a prominent physicist and astronomer. His main discoveries are the centrifugal force, collision laws for bodies and the argument that light consists of waves. He was a contemporary of Galilei and Descartes, and a member of the French Royal Society since 1663. (Summary by Availle)

She was never meant to be seen.

Born in the abyss—where light has never touched and pressure shapes every living thing—she was destined to remain hidden. A creature of the deep, unseen by the world above, drifting through the blackness, waiting.

    Until one day… she rose.

For reasons unknown, a lone anglerfish ascended from the depths, leaving behind the only world she had ever known. She swam toward something distant, something beautiful—a light that was not her own.

And when she reached it… she was gone.

But not before she was seen.

A passing diver captured her final moments. The video spread like wildfire. The world mourned a creature it had never known—but somehow instantly loved.

The Fish Who Touched the Light is a poetic, emotional, and symbolic retelling of a real-life moment that mesmerized millions. Through science, storytelling, and deep emotional reflection, it brings new meaning to the strange and beautiful journey of one deep-sea anglerfish.

    Inside, you’ll discover:

The alien, pressure-crushed world of the deep ocean—and the life that thrives there
What happens when deep-sea creatures rise to the surface
The meaning people found in her journey—and why it struck such a powerful chord
The symbolic connection between her story and our own human search for purpose

This is not just a book about a fish.

It’s about longing. About exploration. About rising beyond what you were built for—toward something greater.

For those who felt something when they saw her…

For those who can’t stop thinking about her rise…

For those who know what it means to chase the light…

    Alien Question The: The History...

The question of man’s place in the extended universe has been pondered by every known culture since the beginning of recorded history. Lacking the means to prove otherwise, discussions of an alternative to Earth’s solitary existence have remained conceptual. The ongoing debate is spurred by the appearance of unexplainable phenomena through the centuries in the atmosphere and the space beyond. Naturally, as technological advances and the creation of flying aircraft became realities, the sighting of UFOs increased, as did the interest in potential contact with aliens. While incidents like the one at Roswell led to conspiracies and a craze among those who insisted the government was hiding proof of extraterrestrials’ existence, governments across the world were actually secretly studying UFO sightings by the mid-20th century.
Given all of that, it would hardly be groundbreaking for scientists in the 20th century to have a lunchtime discussion in which the search for extraterrestrial life arises, and the question of where it might reside is innocuous enough. However, a furor was created somewhat innocently when physicist Enrico Fermi voiced his “casual lunchtime remark” in the presence of colleagues in 1950. The august company included Edward Teller, a Hungarian physicist, Herbert York, am American nuclear physicist whose lineage included Mohawk heritage, and Emil Konopinski, a nuclear physicist of Polish origin. Fermi himself, an Italian-American born in Rome, was renowned for developing a statistical base for subatomic phenomena, work on nuclear alterations caused by neutrons, and for leading the first controlled chain reaction from nuclear fission. In pursuit of managing the atom, he created the first nuclear reactor. A gifted theoretician, he advanced the field of statistical mechanics, and won the Nobel Prize over a decade before he asked his important question.
