Summary

After the end of Civil War in 1865, more than four million slaves were set free. There were several efforts to record the remembrances of the living former slaves. The Federal Writers' Project was one such project by the United States federal government to support writers during the Great Depression by asking them to interview and record the myriad stories and experiences of slavery of former slaves. The resulting collection preserved hundreds of life stories from 17 US states that would otherwise have been lost in din of modernity and America's eagerness to deliberately forget the blot on its recent past. This edition brings to you the complete collection of first hand experiences and voices from the past that makes one question whether is it safe to forget or keep the memories alive for bigger battles ahead. A must read for everyone who is interested in US History, race relations and authentic historical research. Contents: Alabama Arkansas Florida Georgia Indiana Kansas Kentucky Maryland Mississippi Missouri North Carolina Ohio Oklahoma South Carolina Tennessee Texas Virginia

Dr Tom Lonsdale’s original, pioneering work Raw Meaty Bones is the foremost book on the nutritional needs of pet dogs, cats and ferrets. First published in 2001—and of still greater importance today—the 14 chapters are packed with information vital for pet owners and pet professionals the world over.Lonsdale explains how industrial diets devastate the health of pets, how dirty tartar encrusted teeth, sore gums and stinky breath signal the downward spiral of ill-health, suffering and needless trips to the vet. By contrast he shows why dogs and cats crave the ripping, tearing and crunching on raw meaty bones—Nature’s miracle treatment and preventative. It’s the tough, chewy texture of the food that imparts the medicinal benefits. And providing your pet does enough ripping and tearing its teeth will be clean, gums healthy and breath sweet. The resultant benefits for the immune system, heart, liver, lungs and kidneys are enormous—one happy, contented pet. Raw Meaty Bones makes no apology, it reveals a veterinary profession lost without a moral compass beholden to the multi-national pet food companies. It provides the foundations for a pet health revolution—with enormous cost savings for pet owners and benefits for the natural environment worth $billions. If you own a pet, or know someone who does, this book’s for you. Across the Plains in the Donner...

The story of the Donner Party is very much the story of James F. Reed's family, not simply because the Reeds were prominent members, but because they left much documentary evidence: diaries, memoirs, correspondence, and letters written en route and interviews shortly after the disaster.

The adopted daughter of Reed, Virginia Reed Murphy's memoir is a noteworthy recounting of the Donner party disaster and its gruesome end. Her writing is sprightly, informal, and full of human interest.

It's uncertain that Howard Thurman made the remark often attributed to him, "I have been writing this book all my life," but there is little doubt that he was deeply immersed in reflection on the times that bear an uncanny resemblance to the present day, which give voice to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Our "life's book" is filled with sentence upon sentence of marginalization, pages of apartheid, chapters of separate and unequal. Now this season reveals volumes of violence against Blacks in America.

Ten Black women and men explore life through the lens of compelling personal religious narratives. They are people and leaders whose lives are tangible demonstrations of the power of a divine purpose and evidence of what grace really means in face of hardship, disappointment, and determination. Each of the journeys intersect because of three central elements that are the focus of this book. We're Black. We're Christians. We're Methodists. Each starts with the fact, "I'm Black," but to resolve the conflict of being Christian and Methodist means confronting aspects of White theology, White supremacy, and White racism in order to ground an oppositional experience toward domination over four centuries in America.
