Summary

The Voices From The Margins: Authentic Recorded Life Stories by Former Slaves is a groundbreaking collection of narratives documenting the experiences of former slaves in the United States. The book presents a raw and unfiltered look into the lives of individuals who were marginalized and oppressed, offering a unique perspective on American history. Through a combination of first-person accounts and historical context, the author sheds light on the struggles and resilience of a community that has long been silenced. The literary style is simple yet powerful, allowing the voices of the marginalized to speak for themselves and resonate with readers. This book is a valuable resource for scholars and anyone interested in understanding the complexities of freedom and oppression in American society. The Work Projects Administration, a government agency established during the Great Depression, embarked on a mission to collect and preserve the life stories of former slaves. This undertaking led to the creation of The Voices From The Margins, a seminal work that continues to educate and inspire readers today. The author's dedication to preserving these priceless narratives highlights the importance of amplifying marginalized voices in historical discourse. I highly recommend The Voices From The Margins to anyone seeking a deeper understanding of American history through the personal accounts of those who lived through slavery. This book provides a rare and invaluable glimpse into the lives of former slaves, giving voice to those who were often overlooked in mainstream historical narratives.

Brahma is the controller of nature in the mode of passion; he is the engineer who creates the universe. Every universe has its Brahma, who appears as the first created being in it. Although Brahma is usually in the category of the jiva soul, he is designated an avatar (incarnation) of Krishna because he is especially empowered with Krishna’s own creative potency. Using the ingredients furnished by Krishna and following Krishna’s blueprints, Brahma constructs the material universe, and then he begets the offspring, called Prajapatis, whose descendants populate all the planets.

Vishnu, who controls nature in the mode of goodness and sustains the creation, is directly the Supreme Lord. In the spiritual kingdom of God, where everything is everlasting, the quality of goodness exists without either passion or ignorance. Therefore it is appropriate that Vishnu personally controls this quality even in the material world, where it becomes bracketed by ignorance and passion.

Shiva, the lord of the mode of ignorance, devastates the universe at the end by his wild, all-annihilating dance. Shiva is a personal expansion of Krishna, not a jiva. Yet, because he comes into intimate contact with the quality of ignorance and with matter (which is innately ignorant), you cannot receive the same spiritual restoration by worshiping him that you do by worshiping Krishna or Vishnu. Shiva is therefore given his own category, shiva-tattva. Learn all about the sacred trinity of yogic lore.

The Sri Brama-samhita is a collection of prayers by Brahma at the beginning of material creation after the Supreme Person Krishna gave Brahma a divine vision of the spiritual world. Brama, in his amazement, speaks volumes of divinely inspired praise before beginning his work of creation. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu acquired the Fifth Chapter of the Brama-Samhita from the Adi-Keshava temple in South India.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
From the first days of Emancipation to the modern Black entrepreneur, Black American Wealth takes readers on a powerful journey through the financial history of Black America. This deeply researched and emotionally charged book exposes the forgotten truth: Black Americans have always strived for economic independence—and often succeeded—despite facing systemic oppression, racial violence, and intentional barriers at every turn. In this compelling narrative, author Oliver E. Robinson traces the roots of Black wealth from land ownership and early Black millionaires to the rise—and destruction—of thriving Black communities like Tulsa’s Greenwood District, Rosewood, and Wilmington. The book explores the forces that interrupted generational wealth, including redlining, government sabotage, mass incarceration, and economic exclusion. But this is not just a history of struggle—it’s a blueprint for empowerment. Black American Wealth also highlights the modern resurgence of Black wealth-builders, financial educators, and investors who are reclaiming economic power through stocks, entrepreneurship, group economics, and smart planning. More than a book—it’s a call to action, a reminder of legacy, and a roadmap for the future.

This introduction to cyborg theory provides a critical vantage point for analyzing the claims around emerging technologies like automation, robots, and AI. Cyborg analyzes and reframes popular and scholarly conversations about cyborgs from the perspective of feminist cyborg theory. Drawing on their combined decades of training, teaching, and research in the social sciences, design, and engineering education, Laura Forlano and Danya Glabau introduce an approach called critical cyborg literacy. Critical cyborg literacy foregrounds power dynamics and pays attention to the ways that social and cultural factors such as gender, race, and disability shape how technology is imagined, developed, used, and resisted.

Forlano and Glabau offer critical cyborg literacy as a way of thinking through questions about the relationship between humanity and technology. Cyborg examines whether modern technologies make us all cyborgs—if we consider, for instance, the fact that we use daily technologies at work, have technologies embedded into our bodies in health care applications, or use technology to critically explore possibilities as artists, designers, activists, and creators. Lastly, Cyborg offers perspectives from critical race, feminist, and disability thinkers to help chart a path forward for cyborg theory in the twenty-first century.
