Ada Panday: An Autobiography is an inspiring, honest, and deeply personal memoir by entrepreneur Ada Panday, a woman who redefined success on her own terms. A sweeping biography of the visionary behind bone marrow transplantation and the story of the diseases cured by Don Thomas's discovery. In the last half of the twentieth century, Thomas himself discovered a cure for every marrow-based disease—like leukemia, lymphoma, and sickle-cell anemia—forever changing treatment for some of the deadliest illnesses. His feats were extraordinary, earning him a Nobel Prize, and the cascade of treatments he inspired have reshaped and will continue to reshape the practice of clinical medicine. Yet no one has ever written Thomas’s courageous story. Dr. Frederick R. Appelbaum, a member of Thomas’s research team, does so for the first time in Living Medicine: Don Thomas, Marrow Transplantation, and the Cell Therapy Revolution. Bone marrow transplantation has now saved over a million lives, but when Thomas first had the idea, he was met with disbelief by the scientific community. Appelbaum, informed by decades in the field and personal connection with Thomas, tells us the secrets to Thomas’s success: his unique characteristics, how he created an effective team of researchers, and how he overcame the technical obstacles of marrow transplantation. Appelbaum tells a bigger story, too, of the scientific and societal implications of this achievement, which are critical for scientific and lay readers alike so that we all might be better informed of how far our medical progress has come and will go.

A sublimely elegant, fractured reckoning with the legacy and inheritance of suicide in one American family. This stunning elegy that vividly enacts Emily Dickinson’s dictum to “tell it slant,” Sinkhole richly layers personal, familial, political, and environmental histories to provide not answers but essential, heartbreaking truth. In 2009, Juliet Patterson was recovering from a serious car accident when she learned her father had died by suicide. His death was part of a disturbing pattern in her family. Her father’s father had taken his own life; so had her mother’s. Over the weeks and months that followed, grieving and in physical pain, Patterson kept returning to one question: Why? Why had her family lost so many men, so many fathers, and what lay beneath the silence that had taken hold?In three graceful movements, Patterson explores these questions. In the winter of her father’s death, she struggles to make sense of the loss—sifting through the few belongings he left behind, looking to signs and symbols for meaning. As the spring thaw comes, she and her mother depart Minnesota for her father’s burial in her parents’ hometown of Pittsburg, Kansas. A once-prosperous town of promise and of violence, against people and the land, Pittsburg is now literally undermined by abandoned claims and sinkholes. There, Patterson carefully gathers evidence and radically imagines the final days of the grandfathers—one a fiery pro-labor politician, the other a melancholy businessman—she never knew. And finally, she returns to her father: to the haunting subjects of goodbyes, of loss, and of how to break the cycle.

Corey, born in the early 90s to an unhappy couple who would often go on to describe him as a mistake, would go on to live his life full of very bizarre and unfortunate situations, whether it's through living in supposed haunted houses or many awkward sexual encounters, all whilst having to face continuous anxiety and depression on a daily basis. To say his life is eventful would be an understatement; it's so eventful, to the point that he would always be told by those who are aware of his story that he should write a book, and so here we are—the book has been written.
Throughout the course of this memoir, Corey takes us through the first 33 years of his life with locations ranging from Coventry to Manchester, from London to Blackpool, and from Butlins Skegness to Majorca. We delve into indie music scenes through various bands that Corey was a part of as well as a journey into his varied film taste, from Friday the 13th being the first horror film he watched in full all the way to Everything Everywhere All at Once changing his life and becoming his favourite film of all time upon seeing it at the cinema. Amongst all of this is a dark side, so much so to the point that Corey feels as though he's living through his own horror film as he faces the pressures of coming out of the closet, being in the middle of the many problems of his family, and facing bullies in various areas of life as well as the inescapable bully that is his own mind.
This is a book that has been written as a way of therapy, a way of finding humour in bad situations whilst acknowledging how serious everything is that he has been through over the years, and it's a way of reaching out to people who have been through similar weird, horrific, and difficult times as a helping hand of sorts, a bit of reassurance if you will, reassurance that you're not alone and that someone else has been through this and has lived to tell the tale.
