William Dean Howells
William Dean Howells (1837–1920) was an American novelist, literary critic, and editor. He edited The Atlantic Monthly from 1871 to 1881 and advocated for literary realism. His works include the novels The Rise of Silas Lapham, Indian Summer, and The Kentons, as well as the critical study Criticism and Fiction.
