Victor Atyas
Born in Sarajevo in what was then Yugoslavia, Victor Atyas witnessed Nazi atrocities. To avoid being sent to a concentration camp, he and his family escaped to Italy, where he grew up. He immigrated alone to the United States at the age of twenty, with neither a formal education nor any knowledge of English.
